(review) Hell Militia – Hollow Void (Season of Mist)

Hell Militia are hailing from the depths of French underground black metal scene and have been in existence since 2001. This is their fourth full length opus and first one in ten years. This band consists of experienced individuals who have been in the scene for decades playing in many great bands and projects delivering the unholy music to our metal hearts. This opus contains nine songs. Music of Hell Militia is raw and energetic old school black metal like it was played in the nineties from the north of Europe and if I must compare it to some bands, it would be 1349, early Satyricon, Gorgoroth, early Mayhem and similar bands. There are couple of death metal influences in some vocal growls here and there and some slower parts, but it is mainly full one blast beat aggression of black metal backed with melodic guitar work and superb vocals courtesy of singer RSDX. This is no black gaze, no hipster black metal, this is how it was supposed to sound from the early days and I love that bands like Hell Militia continue to fly the black banner high for years to come. Personal favorites: Dust of time, Hollow Void, Veneration.
