(news) Finnish Thrash Metal Quintet HEXING Sign With Wormholedeath!

Hailing from the eerie part of Helsinki / Finland, HEXING are glad to announce that they have signed a deal with Wormholedeath for their album “Welcome to Salem” out via Wormholedeath worldwide.

Band statement:
We are super excited to finally be able to release our debut album and to begin working with Wormholedeath records. We have tried to blend the energy and rawness of many old school thrash metal bands such as Exodus, Stone and Megadeth, with influences from various metal subgenres, such as death metal. Many of the songs on this album feature fast riffs, heavy breakdowns and plenty of guitar solos.

Hexing was formed in East Helsinki at the beginning of 2021 under the name Salem by Riku Siisiäinen, Ossi Kylliäinen and Mio Asimont. Ben Kejonen and Daniel Gamache joined shortly after and the band began working on new material right away. The name Salem was later changed to Hexing before the band’s first concert. After playing multiple concerts in the fall Daniel Gamache decided to leave the band before the album was recorded and he was replaced by Tuure Suomalainen, who recorded many of the guitar solos featured on Welcome to Salem. The current line up consist of Riku Siisiäinen, Mio Asimont, Tuure Suomalainen , Ossi Kylliäinen and Ben Kejonen .

In spring and summer, Hexing performs in Finland. Sometime later, Hexing also heads to other parts of Europe. Have a nice summer!

Line up:
Riku Siisiäinen (Vocals)
Mio Asimont (Guitar)
Tuure Suomalainen (Guitar)
Ossi Kylliäinen (Drums)
Ben Kejonen (Bass)

(news) SBÄM Exhibit – The art exhibition at SBÄM Fest 4

In ten weeks the SBÄM Fest 4 will take place at the Tabakfabrik in Linz and it is therefore time to introduce our great side actions with which we offer our visitors that certain something extra. The first one is SBÄM Exhibit!

From Salvador Dali to Andi Warhol, artists have influenced and shaped punk in its origins. SBÄM also started with Stefan Beham’s graphics for tour posters, record covers and merchandise of bands. As part of SBÄM Exhibit, he explores his roots and brings national and international artists from the punk universe to SBÄM Fest for an art exhibition.

It’s all about art forms that have shaped punk rock beyond music, and SBÄM Exhibit offers the festival audiences the opportunity to experience art in their own punk scene right on the spot – from street art to visual art, from musicians who are active in various art forms besides music, and artists who have shaped punk rock in some way with their artistic work.

You can look forward to the following artists and their works:
Steve Caballero
Erik Ohlsson (Millencolin)
Missfelidae (Lisa Arnberger)
A Place For Tom (Thomas Gasperlmair)
SBÄM (Stefan Beham)

(review) One Armed Joey – Hapiness, To Me (Sell the Heart Records)

Sonoma County is a place where nineties melodic punk rock existed and thrived with bands such as Tsunami Bomb or Bracket falling to mind immediately. North Bay in California has new and superb melodic punk bands and One Armed Joey is one of those. This trio has been around since 2014 and this is their first full length album after releasing couple of e.p.-s. This one contains ten songs of absolutely beautiful melodic punk rock with some pop punk influences and it is so sweet to listen to. Vocals are such honey and cinnamon sprinkled melodies and backing vocal harmonies deliver such overlayer of beauty to the main melodies. Guitar work is awesome, songwriting is totally great and this album or music does not get boring or repetitive for one second. Lyrics are another story, so carefully and well written and handle with today´s anxieties that any of us have and hold, and teach us to somehow try to turn those anxieties to happiness and cope with that in everyday rush and all day running and trying to catch something. The album as a whole is at the same time melancholic but also full of hope and not giving up. Besides playing pop punk, there are also a bit of reggae influence like in part of one of my personal favorites Mirrors. Also, songs I mention as my highlights are Rot and Lost Dog pt 1 and 2. This is a great album.
