(book) Jim X Dodge – ‘Theta House’ (Earth Island Books)

Earth Island books became known to me as the source of beautiful and superb books about punk and hardcore scene, but this time they tried themselves in releasing horror novel by Jim X Dodge, who also has roots in punk and DIY scene. This one is a keeper! Reading this book was like watching a tense and chilling horror thriller movie. The story evolves around six young people who were invited to come to Theta House(Theta means Death in Greek), to participate in a game, something similar to solving riddles and escape room puzzles. But, this game is real, this game involves death, gore and will there be escape for any of the participants?

This story is not something quite new and original, but the idea is executed with precision and accuracy, reading this one is not hard, it is something I as a reader enjoyed very much. Characters are someone you can relate to, from overweight transgender Dana, gothic emo Baron, two stupid fraternity guys to Asian American twins, a bit arrogant in their postures. There are no filler pages, nothing to make this book boring and the ending is satisfying to all of us gore fiends out there, so I heartily recommend this one.

Conclusion: 9/10 axes. Horror and thriller in one chilling package of gore, mystery and destruction.

(news – punk) Midwich Cuckoos welcomes new singer Mel Hassan!

Punk/metal crossover wild cards, Midwich Cuckoos, are excited to announce the addition of their new lead singer, Mel Hassan. Mel joins this busy band of misfits for a some new live dates and new songs on the horizon.

Midwich Cuckoos are a London-based outfit, who released their album ‘Death or Glory’, last year, which was supported by an extravaganza of music videos.

This new introduction brings a distinctly different sound into the Cuckoo’s mix of genre-bashing, sing-a-long tracks. Fans of the band can expect more high-octane tunes, big riffs and catchy killer choruses from the new material, with some unexpected velvety tones from their new frontwoman.

Catch the band’s new lineup at one of their upcoming shows:

Sat 27th May – Blondies, Hackney, London
Fri 23rd June – Youth Brigade Festival, Dortmund Germany
Sat 5th Aug – Rebellion Festival, Blackpool
