(review) Oppkast – ‘Tomorrow’s Hangover’

Oppkast are proof that not only great black metal comes from Norway. These guys play quality hardcore punk with lots of influences. This is their brand new EP containing five songs. This is great, energetic punk hardcore. The title song is one of my favorites on this one, because besides melodic punk which is foundation, it also has blast beat part which fits perfectly into the song structure. ‘Running Dry’ is another surprise because it is a reggae punk song, different than the previous I mentioned. ‘Self Entitlement Denied’ is fast hardcore punk song, with melody and rawness but also has some d-beat and grind influences, at least I can hear it that way. My personal favorite is ‘Same Mistakes’, excellent punk rock heartfelt melodic song which brought goosebumps on my skin, with fine lyrics and finer guitar solo and kind of melancholic vibe. ‘Fuck It All’ end this fine EP of in your face hardcore punk and I love every single minute of it.

(movie) The Reckoning(2020) – Neil Marshall jak kao i uvijek!

Neil Marshall mi je oduvijek bio jedan od najdražih novijih britanskih redatelja. Njegovi filmovi poput Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion su mi uvijek bili odlični, kao i podosta epizoda raznih tv serija koje je režirao kao što su Game Of Thrones, Hannibal, Constantine, Westworld…Kada sam vidio da mu je izašao ovaj film živo me zanimalo na što će ličiti pogotovo kada sam vidio da se događa u 16.stoljeću u Engleskoj i da je riječ o lovu na vještice, kugi i sličnim veselim stvarima. Dakle, film govori o sretnom paru koji živi s bebom negdje na selu. Jednog dana muž ode u grad, vrati se zaražen kugom koja hara okolo i objesi se. Grace(Charlotte Kirk) ostane mlada udovica s bebom koja se teško nosi sa svakodnevnicom. Jednog dana nju dođe maltretirati njen stanodavac odnosno vlastelin koji je vlasnik kuće i zemlje na kojoj žive. Grace odbija njegove nemoralne ponude, pa je ovaj da uhapsiti kao vješticu i poziva moćnog Witchhuntera(skoro kućni Marshallov glumac Sean Pertwee) da nju muči i da iznude priznanje. No, Grace odbija priznati i odluči smisliti lukav plan kako bi se osvetila svima koji su njoj naudili. Kao i svi Marshallovi filmovi, ovaj je itekako tečan, uzbudljiv i nema praznog hoda. Negativci-Witchfinder i njegova pomoćnica su atraktivni i karizmatični, vlastelin Pendleton(igra ga Steven Waddington iz Sleepy Hollow, Uncharted, The Imitation Game…) je ljigav, baš onako napisan da ti se gadi i ne osjećaš ništa osim mržnje prema njemu. Grace mi je ponekad malo drvena, odnosno Charlotte Kirk(The Lair, Vice…)mi se nekako možda nije baš uklopila u ulogu, bolja bi bila recimo Kate Beckinsale, kao u Marshallovom Doomsdayu, no pretpostavljam da je Kate bila preskupa. Kraj je odlično izveden, ostavlja neke naznake i šanse za nastavak, no može i biti završena priča.

Gore efekti: 8/10 sjekira – nisu česti, no kada se pojave sasvim su ukusno i odlično napravljeni.

Gluma: 7/10 sjekira – zbog Charlotte Kirk ocjena manje, ostatak postave solidan.

Zaključak: 8 /10 sjekira – zabavan i dobar film, Neil Marshall do sada nije nikada omanuo u mojim očima.

Post-punk outfit THE SLEEPING has unveiled the lead single off of their long-awaited new album, I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost, their first new release in nearly 13 years. “The Animal” is now available worldwide via music streaming services. The song showcases the quartet’s undeniable chemistry, energy, and musicianship.

‘The Animal’ is written about the anxieties we deal with on a regular basis, when the world outside of our inner circle invades our personal space,” explains vocalist Douglas Robinson. “As we get older, our circle often gets smaller and the world around us feels a lot more intrusive.”

On I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost, The Sleeping dials in their eccentric and erratic blend of ambient indie rock, post-punk, and melodic hardcore. From the uncomfortability of unknown people entering and refusing to leave your personal space (“The Animal”) to wanting to get back to the positive side of your personality (“No Light”) to battling with yourself on a regular basis (“Tainted”) to the crossing over of your personality from happy to anxious, frustrated and stressed (“Halcyon”) – I Feel Like Becoming A Ghost shines a light on mental instability.

The Sleeping formed in 2003 on Long Island. The band was founded by Cameron Keym, Sal Mignano, and Joe Zizzo from the remains of metalcore outfit Skycamefalling. After auditioning twenty-two potential vocalists, they came across Douglas Robinson, former singer/guitarist of the band Stillwelle.

Their live performances are known for their emotive, high-energy and tight-knit sound. They’ve toured with everyone from Jimmy Eat World to Taking Back Sunday to Bayside to ALEXISONFIRE. Their music has been featured in video games including Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam, Madden NFL 07, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage.

The band made their debut on One Day Savior Recordings with Believe What We Tell You which led them to a record deal with renowned indie label Victory Records for three full-length albums between 2006 and 2010 including Questions And Answers, What It Takes, and The Big Deep.
