Earth Island Books continues to amaze with great book releases with roots in punk rock and hardcore scene. This time, it is a collection of essays by Ray Stuart, guy who grew up in punk rock scene writing fanzines, reading, traveling and this book is a train of thoughts. Ray is actually describing situation in UK in last couple of years from his personal point of view, his stand about UK’s main themes like education, religion, Boris Johnson, Brexit, NHS, Covid lockdown and death of Queen Elizabeth and new King Charles and so on. I know, essays sometimes are boring to read but this collection is so personal, so great to read just like I am reading a fanzine with personal and political features in it. I learned a lot about the author through these essays and the book itself. So, it is time for you to check this one out and read for yourself some food for thoughts. Good one indeed.

The Dutch punk rock band Ink Bomb releases a new music video: ‘Frankenstein’.
The Dutch punk rock band Ink Bomb releases a new music video: Frankenstein. The song is dark and loud, mixing skate punk with elements of indie, grunge and hardcore. Halfway through, the song changes from an unexpected twist to a rousing resolution. Frankenstein is the third single from the new album that will be released later this year.

| Conflict In the 1920s-esque music video, frontman Joost plays a prize fighter who has a conflict with his shady manager, played by drummer Paul. The band drew inspiration from the series Peaky Blinders, Mamma Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J and “1920s Bep van Klaveren style” for the content and the style, according to Paul who created the concept of the video. Ink Bomb collaborated with Casper Rutjes from Breadclip and the video was filmed at De Moor Media. Doubtful lovers The title Frankenstein refers to a horror story. The lyrics tell the story of two doubtful lovers. “I did that in the metaphor of a thriller, containing a crime scene and a murder victim,” singer Joost explains. The work of a fiend A serpent, devil unseen Count your prayers Or it might kill the dream Writing process The title of the song also refers to the writing process. Like the monster of Frankenstein, the Ink Bomb song Frankenstein consists of parts put together. These are various riffs based on styles other than traditional skate punk, such as indie, grunge and hardcore. Guitarist Quirijn: “While writing our second album I have captured many ideas in the past twelve months. When I listened back to that, I suddenly heard that these separate parts would fit well together.” Ink Bomb will be returning to the studio very soon to record more songs for their second album, expected in 2023. |
Yvet Garden will release their next EP ‘A Long Way Down’ on KROD Records in late autumn 2023. Here is the new single/video!
Yvet Garden have signed to KROD Records for a very dark EP, more melancholy and rocking than their previous pop-punk releases. This will be a 6-track EP on a pretty purple vinyl format, which will be available for pre-order in September. Yvet Garden presents their second single ‘ When The Angels Fall‘ from the EP.
When The Angels Fall, as its name suggests, is a rather dark song about depression. Rudy from the band tells us more about his story:
After our epic trip to the UK at the end of 2019, some members took a step back from the band and the global pandemic followed, which was mentally quite difficult on a personal level for all of us. This song is the 1st composition Flo has come up with since then, and I was keen to express what I was feeling at the time. Depression is a subject I take very seriously, as it’s often invisible to others and can cause a lot of damage. Rest assured, I’m fine! But not everyone is, so don’t hesitate to speak out. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Yvet Garden in a few words…
Formed in 2015 in Valence, Yvet Garden is all about rock. Sometimes punk-rock, sometimes metal, the 4 valentines string together their devastating riffs through atmospheres tinged with darkness and melancholy. Following the release of their 1st EP “Twisted Tales” in 2018, the band has forged a solid live reputation across France and England. Both in clubs and in some of the country’s finest venues (Bataclan, Transbordeur, Backstage, CCO). In the course of 2021, the band will return to the studio illegally during confinement to record their second opus, scheduled for autumn 2023. This will mark a transition in the band’s musical evolution, under the impetus of KROD Records, which the quartet will join in early 2023.
