Spanish Love Songs are hailing from Los Angeles, California and this is their new release containing twelve songs. This isn’t your standard California skate punk with nineties influence, no, this is something quite original and great. These guys play emotional melodic punk rock, leaning more into pop punk waters than harsher punk rock with haunting guitar melodies, synth backed harmonies and superb vocals whose emotional voice emphasizes the atmosphere of songs which is quite something. This is pretty darkened album in my opinion, personal lyrics dealing with mental health, sickness, suicide, hope and hopelessness, apocalypse all from personal standpoint and lyrics are great, smart but in your face at the same time. Some of the songs are slower and more atmospheric, some are more straightforward punk rock like awesome ‘Haunted’ which is one of my favorites on this album, smartly chosen for a single and video. Although leaning more into pop one of my highlights is also ‘Clean-Up Crew’, two other songs I must mention are ‘I’m Gonna Miss Everything’ and ‘Exit Bags’. This album is a must for all you fans of haunting and sometimes eerie melodic emotional pop punk rock.
Darko blast Toxic Masculinity in “What I Cannot Be”
UK punks Darko unveil empassioned new single and video, “What I Cannot Be,” today, marrying their signature blistering speed with the controlled frenzy of The Dillinger Escape Plan or Converge.
“Melodic skate punk will always be in the DNA of Darko, but sometimes it just isn’t angry enough for the subject matter”, frontman Tom West said of the striking departure from the band’s established sound.
“What I Cannot Be” kicks off the upcoming 5 track “Greyscale”. Producer Will Duff of Goliath Studios returns to the desk for the nihilistic second chapter of a trilogy preceeded by 2022’s genre-bending “Sparkle”.
Across the pummeling two-minute new single, West savagely condemns “neanderthal hardmen” and traditional expectations of masculinity.
“Having focused on how the patriarchy principally harms women and marginalised genders in Sparkle’s opener “The Ladder”, this time around I needed to vent about the significant toll it also takes on men and boys”, explains West.
“Being pushed into boxes based on redundant stereotypes hurts everyone.”

Formed in 2012, ANY GIVEN DAY ignited interest with their 2014 debut My Longest Way Home (Official German Album Charts: #28).
