(review) The Dwarves – ‘Concept Album’

Legendary punk band The Dwarves are back with their brand new studio full length and 20 new songs for your listening pleasure. For those who don’t know, The Dwarves play mixture of melodic punk, hardcore and garage punk. Vocalist Blag Dahlia sounds better than ever and the band is musically tight delivering the songs as energy bomb, one after another. From melodic chorus of ‘Feeling great’, across hardcore punk fast ‘Voodoo’, The Dwarves deliver the goods. The Dwarves never cared about political correctness, having their deal of scandals over the years with album covers, death hoaxes, feuds and brawls with other bands. Besides Blag Dahlia, The Dwarves line-up also consists of celebrity drummer Josh Freese (Foo Fighters), legendary multi-instrumentalist Nick Oliveri (Kyuss) and dozens of rock luminaries. Other songs that I must mention as being highlights on this album for me are ‘Dead To Me’, playful sexy song, also ‘Roxette’, ‘Everybody Squirts’ and ‘We Will Dare’ but as I listened album over and over every time something else springs forth making this a great listening pleasure. Go listen to The Dwarves if you dare!

About “Far From Glory” EP
Descent’s “Far From Glory” EP is a testament to their musical journey, marking a significant resurgence in the metal realm. The band embraced a unique approach, combining classic and modern recording techniques. Recording the EP at Mike’s home brought an authentic touch to the music, as they shied away from excessive studio manipulation.Extensive research and a meticulous selection of equipment, including Reaper as their recording software, were pivotal. The band opted for minimal editing on the drums to preserve the human element, using sample blending to enhance the sound authentically. Guitars and bass added depth and intensity to their music, while vocals posed a distinct challenge, incorporating multiple layers and inward singing for a melodic intensity.Following the recording phase, DESCENT sought the expertise of Skulltone Studios in Germany to refine their sound. The collaboration proved instrumental in achieving a polished, professional sound that stayed true to their artistic vision.

“Suffered Reminders” delves deep into the raw emotions of betrayal, disappointment, and heartbreak in the aftermath of broken promises and shattered trust. The track passionately conveys feelings of frustration and abandonment, highlighting the one-sided nature of the relationship. These heartfelt lyrics narrate the journey from giving one’s all to facing the harsh reality of a love gone sour. Sometimes, parting ways is the best path to healing.

DESCENT: A Band with a History, A Future of Triumph

DESCENT’s journey through the world of music has been an eventful one, full of twists and turns. It all began with Brian and Mike, who bonded over their love for music in their early teens. Heavily influenced by iconic bands like Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, and The Offspring, they spent countless hours jamming in Brian’s garage, performing at house parties, and connecting with the punk and skate scene in Deep Ellum, Dallas.

Life took them on separate paths in 2002, with Brian playing in various bands and Mike venturing into different musical endeavors. But in 2018, Mike decided to resurrect DESCENT, joined forces with talented individuals like Kevin Rinders, Dylan Pike, and Joseph Kuban, and faced both loss and triumph in their musical journey. The band’s name, DESCENT, originating from a video game, holds a unique charm.

Today, with a full lineup featuring ‘Metal’ Mike Ames, Dylan Pike, Brian Knox, and Jamie Rodriguez, DESCENT is ready to conquer the music world once again.

TIM’s FAVOURITE comes with second single + music video from their upcoming album ‘amaConda’…..!!!

Belgian “zen metal” band TIM’S FAVOURITE comes with new single, new music video. Full new album ‘amaConda’ will be released on January 16th 2024

It took a bit longer than expected, but 2 years after the first single, “A Deeper Advantage”, Tim’s Favourite are finally ready to unleash their fourth full album, ‘amaConda’, upon the world. As a teaser, the title track “amaConda” and an accompanying video clip are now finally released.

Baseline

Tim’s Favourite brings you the “zen metal”: a rather idiosynchratic, somewhat disorienting trip straight into hell during which grunge, metal, psychedelic rock and inscrutable lyrics will forever bulldoze your last remaining certainties to bits and leave your neck muscles in a permanent state of infernal agony. For fans of ToolAlice In ChainsSoundgardenProngMetallicaMeshuggah and, would you believe it, the (later) Beatles

BIO:

Tim’s Favourite is a Belgian quartet mingling seemingly irreconcilable elements of grunge, thrash metal, progressive metal, stoner and, frankly, whatever they dig in their own hypnotizing concrete mixer, resulting into something they like to call “zen metal”. Think of it what you may, think Tool meets Alice In Chains meets early Metallica and then some.

The band’s unholy name might put you on the wrong track about its not necessarily uplifting vibe, but there’s a thoroughly credible narrative behind it: One day, founding father Jan Pauwels discovered his three-year-old nephew Tim with a pair of headphones, in a state of total disbelief and utter torment whilst listening to demos for what was to become the first album of his uncle’s metal project. The name for the project was found. In the following years, each new TF album only added to The Infernal Majesty’s torment, eventually leaving him no option but to join the band bearing his name, so as to cunningly manipulate them into ditching any songmaterial in his view short from pure perfection.

Add the synchronicity of this harrowing family feud to a blistering rhythm section, layered (dis)harmonies and the ensuing inevitable explosion of raw aggression on stage and you have the uncanny formula for Tim’s Favourite.

If all of the above gives you a vague hunch that The Favourites don’t take themselves meritoriously enough then make no mistake about it: When it comes to their music and – perhaps even more so – their lyrics, they are rediculously serious. After on the previous 3 albums having gotten to the bottom of romantic topics such as Darwinism, the Holocaust, religion, science, free will, incompleteness, capitalism and the inexorcible feeling of not wanting to get up in the morning, on their forthcoming new album album (to be released on Jan. 16, 2024) they find themselves entertaining a doubt as to the benignity of what may possibly be the most democracy-disrupting force in the 21st century. The title (“amaConda”), by the way, is not misspelled. It’s not even so much about snakes, either. But, probably more to the point, as a teaser a video clip for the title track was released on Nov. 22 of this year.
