(record review)THE THIRSTY CROWS-Hangman´s Noose(Batcave Records)

The good hardworking people at Batcave Records constantly surprise us with excellent new releases, so here is another one from their hellish kitchen! I listened and reviewed The Thirsty Crows new record for our zine.

The Thirsty Crows Hangman's Noose Cover

This band comes from Los Angeles and they are relatively new band on the scene. I must admit that I have never heard of their music prior to this record, but now I am glad that I have and am wickedly grinning after listening to this little piece of darkness. They describe their music as psycrowbilly. This record contains 14 songs of awesome psychobilly with many punkrock and some rockabilly and americana influences in the song structures. If I must compare their music to some bands, it would be the sensibility of Rezurex mixed with ferocious melodic attack of Koffin Kats and the atmosphere of Ghoultown in there somewhere too. I love the singalong almost horrorpunk parts of Heart of Rust. There is a lot of old school rock n roll in the song structure of Good Juice, giving it old school road vibe. For me, the best songs on the album are definitely De La Muerte and especially Anchor˙s Up which was on repeat a couple of times how good it is. This is a great record for everyone who love modern psychobilly punkabilly music. Nice job!

(record review)SYMPHONY OF DISTRACTION/69ENFERMOS-They Came From Faster Space!(Morning Wood Records)

I was really happy when I heard that this split release by Symphony Of Distraction and 69enfermos is coming out via Morning Wood Records. It is finally here and I am happy that I was able to listen and review it for this zine.

cover

Symphony of Distraction side of the record contains 5 songs of fast, melodic and energetic melodic skatepunk with some hardcore influences. These guys are from the upstate New York and I never heard of their music prior to this release, so I am happy to discover their awesome songs. As I understood their lyrics are more on the political side of things and I love Call It Off and Fall From Eden as in my opinion stand out songs, but all five are fast, dramatic and beautiful. I love this band.

69enfermos from Brasil have already been represented in this zine with the review of their last full length and I met Dalin when they toured Europe and saw them play live at Punk Rock Holiday, also did an interview for this zine. These guys are from Brasil, although they originally hail from Columbia and they exist for more than 20 years now. Their side of the record also contains 5 beautiful songs of 90-ies melodic skatepunk with Dalin´s recognizable voice and nice melodies. What I really love about this band how they achieve atmosphere of nostalgia and drama in their song structures, the thing that not many bands manage to do nowadays. In my opinion the best of their songs here are Don´t, Memories. This is a great record.

(record review)WANK-White Knuckle Ride

Orange County veterans WANK are back in action. After an e.p. in 2016., they released their new full length record and I listened to the music and reviewed the record for our zine.

WANK_Cover_Art

Formed in 1995.at the height of mid nineties melodic punk frenzy, Wank released the debut record and played many shows with almost all the big bands of that time but in 2000.bassist/vocalist Bobby Amodeo fought the disease and the members played in other bands. Now, reunited and stronger than ever, they are back with the new record.

The record contains 11 songs of melodic punkrock and when I say punkrock I mean just that, lovely punkrock, maybe not fast as I love, but indeed with awesome song structures, beautiful choruses and tunes that make you hum them long after you finish listening to the record. There is a reggae influenced punk in We Wanna Rock, heartwarming lyrics in all songs, especially in my favorite It Was You. All the lyrics are personal but I can relate in all the songs with themes like not giving up, love, heartbreak, coping in this world, hope, in fact, these guys remind me a lot of Descendents but maybe less frantic than Milo and crew and more ska in song structures. Won`t Let Go is also one of my personal favorites on this record, besides Salvation, the song guys chose for the single. I love this record. If you are a fan of great, heartfelt punkrock, this one is just the one for you.
