(record review)The Quintessentials-The Satanic Rites of the Quintessentials

The Quintessentials are horrorpunk band from Hawaii and this is their new, sixth record. I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

folder

Formed by guitarist/singer Rev Les Hernandez in 1998. these guys have been around on the scene for more than 20 years now. This new record contains 18 songs of melodic horrorpunk inspired more with 50-ies styled doowop and rock and roll and less modern metal music, meaning The Quintessentials play horrorpunk that I love, not much complicating, only 123 punkrock, almost Ramones or Screeching Weasel style. Lyrically, this is not your typical horrorpunk band with zombies and night of the living dead rehashed for the hundredth time, no, some of the lyrics are inspired by Church of Satan and the philosophy of Anton Szandor LaVey and some are classic horrorpunk, but there is also a lot of black humor and auto irony involved. Rev Les Hernandez is having a major health problem, so if you like the band, go to their page and check out how you can help the man in fighting the fight of his lifetime. For me the best songs on the record are: One in Darkness, Waiting, Rhiannon.

(record review)INCISIONS-Incisions(TNSrecords)

Manchester UK seems to be great city for diy punk bands, this time I listened and reviewed the new Incisions record out on TNSrecords.

Layout 1

Formed in 2015., these guys have been playing their version of angry, but melodic American inspired hardcore punk. This record is proof how such band should sound like. There are 12 songs in circa 19 minutes on this record. Lyrics are shouted and sometimes melodic sung and it sounds awesome. The lyrics are about right winged tide threat rising in Europe and the world right now, liquor, life, friendship, politics and in fact the lyrics are smart mixture of personal, humour and political. For me favorite tracks on this album are War In Your Head, I Wanna Die With You and Corrupted System.

If you are into your hardcore punk sounding harsh, yet with melody, and having street smart mojo in the songs, then Incisions record is the right one for you.

(record review)THE SOBERS-The Sobers IV

I must admit that I have never heard of The Sobers prior to this record, but now I am so happy that I did after I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

FRONT

The Sobers are punkrock band from Marseille, France and their new record contains 13 songs. I was blown away at the start of the album how greasy and dirty it sounds and how easily it evolves into beautiful melody in the first song D.L.D. So, the music these guys play is dirty, but still melodic punk with mainly personal, but also good and smart lyrics. I would definitely love to hear how this material sounds live. Damn! Vocals are harsher sung, but still enough melodic and appealing, backing and harmony vocals are awesome too, so all of you who read my reviews know how important are the vocals for me in such bands. There are some songs that were more outstanding for me, those being: Shitty Halo, It Could Have Been A Better Day, Blood Feud. This is a great album for the fans of rawer, yet melodic punkrock.
