I just love war horror! This little subgenre of horror is related to movies happening in WWII, WWI or other wars, or are related to those wars. This little movie is so great that I watched it already three times since it is out ten years ago. Well, a group of mercenaries discovers abandoned mine in which Japanese general Yamashita supposedly hid gold. But, as things go in such movies, there is no gold and the mercenaries and scientists deal with infamous Japanese Unit 731 instead, For those who don´t know, Unit 731 was a sinister Japanese division which did experiments on humans and killed a lot of prisoners of war, especially in the town of Harbin in Manchuria. Well, action here is superb, especially when those Japanese Imperial Guard soldiers step into story. There are couple of great gore scenes, ending leaves place for a sequel which fortunately or less fortunately never came. My heartily recommendation for this one. Directed by Steven Sheil(Mum & Dad).
Yes! Polish skate punks CF98 are back with new full length release and after listening to this one, I can safely say that this is their strongest record yet! This one sounds great, produced by Ishay Berger of Useless ID fame along with CF98 members. This one contains an intro plus 13 songs of sweet skate punk mixed with melodic hardcore and the singer Karolina sounds more convincing and also better than ever. This one offers themes from fight against sexism, homophobia, nationalism to more personal themes that all can relate to. I listened to fantastic Double Sunrise over and over again with all those sweet harmonies on chorus. Of course, there are also melodic hardcore songs, like fantastic Plot Twist, which reminded me of Ignite a lot, maybe it is just me. Better Than Cocaine is also one of hardcore songs, being my favorite, but the sweetest song for me on this record is Love Is Never Wrong with such a nice chorus, melody and lyrics. Go have a listen to this one, you will not regret it. This is melodic hardcore par excellence and for sure on of the top five records in this genre to come out this year so far.
Not to be confused with same titled Stephen King´s legendary novel and movie, this one is a lame attempt at just another post infection zombie vs special forces movie. A team of special ops soldiers must enter the zone where supposedly all the infected fast running zombies are killed by a blast, called Dead Zone. Their mission is to take new vaccines out and save the world. As it goes in movies such as this, their plans complicate as they are taken one by one by mutants, virus and zombies. This is a cheap ass bad story movie, Michael Jai White and Jeff Fahey only appear a little to justify their names on poster. Everything mostly happens in dark and dim lighted rooms of an abandoned building which plays a science facility in this movie. Zombies are totally no see, in shadow running in impossible angles and main mutant villain is just bad. This is a bad one indeed. Avoid!
