(review) Quitters – Captain Are We Thinking

Quitters are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine. These French punk rockers have a new full length and this one offers 12 beautiful songs of melodic punk rock, maybe not fast but powerful mid tempo anthems delivering awesome melodies, strong vocal performance and backing vocal harmonies with great lyrics yours truly can totally relate to. It is very hard to choose personal favorites between these songs because every time I listen to this record again and again I always find something new and beautiful to check out and that is a magic of this record. If I must mention my current bunch of favorite songs, that would be When The Sun Goes Down, Broken World, A Full Plate And An Empty Heart, those three would be my highlights. But, as I said, you gotta find your own. Great record.

(comic book review) Vojna by Goran Duplančić is an excellent work from this Croatian author!

It is a mid 1991 and Yugoslavia is about to end when Croatia and Slovenia decided to exit the failed state and start their own independent lives. That brought bloody civil war in my country with Serbs attacking Croatia, dirty war in Bosnia, but it all started with couple of weeks war in Slovenia when Yugoslav National Army tried to keep Slovenia from exiting Yugoslavia and in the war between soldiers and Slovenian Territorial Defence lives where lost and this senseless shit started to unfold. Well, Goran Duplančić, Croatian author released a graphic novel which tells his autobiography story when he served in YNA as a corporal in Ljubljana, capitol of Slovenia in those days, and tells all confusion, tragedy, violence and nationalism that started right there through the eyes of a young man who only tries to survive and come back home alive. This is a powerful story, that grabs you and keeps you reading until you finish it and makes you think a lot about that afterwards, because I can relate to this one, because I lived through all those tragic and confused days, months and years. I love how Goran´s inner visions and background story interplays with the main story and makes it even deeper and personal. This is one of the best comic books I have read in a long time. Heartily rec ommendation.

(review) Arch Enemy – Deceivers (Century Media Records)

Here we are, album number twelve of Arch Enemy. I will say a blasphemy now in the eyes of many fans, but for me personally, last three albums are the best that this band made in their career. That are the three albums with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals. Her arrival brought new energy to the band, new versatility in vocals and melodies, also new aggression and brutality. Not to sad Angela Gossow was bad, quite opposite, but I love the last three records. This one offers 11 songs and I am at hardship to choose which one I like more. It took listening for like three times to decide, so I will do it like that: Handshake With Hell-awesome straightforward aggressive death thrash anthem with superb clean vocal middle parts, courtesy of little demon Alissa. In The Eye Of The Storm kicks ass with mid tempo, heavy song which adds to epic anthemic chorus and great lyrics. Poisoned Arrow-the song with contagious and such wicked little guitar melody that it stays in your ears to hum all day. There is also one short but epic instrumental called Mourning Star in which all splendid musicianship of this veteran band comes to forefront. One Last Time is melancholy, mid tempo anthem with story how to rise up and live on and I love this perfection of a song. Not to discover just everything, check this one out. One of the best records to come out this year.
