(review) Trashed Ambulance – Leapfrog e.p. (Thousand Islands Records)

cover

Trashed Ambulance from Alberta, Canada are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine and I am glad we kicked off 2021 with their new e.p. out digital with Thousand Islands Records.

There are three songs on this e.p. For those who don´t know it yet, Trashed Ambulance play more technical version of epic and fantastic melodic fast skate punk, bordering somewhere between old school nineties melodic punk I love so much and newer technical modern skate punk with fantastic guitar work and songwriting coupled with some of the sweetest harmonies and melodies I have listened in a while. Vocals remind me a bit of mixture between Fat Mike and Chris from Propagandhi, great voice, but maybe only I hear that similarity. On The Mend is fast song, having melancholic line throughout whole song, being my personal favorite on this record. The title song is punk rock song with awesome chorus just made for singing and humming along whole day after you finished listening to the record. Throughout all songs, there is a soft, melancholic, almost sad and nostalgic vibe that I feel while listening, but I love the feeling that music gives me. Delinquent is the last song and it is again song that leaves you only wanting more and more. Can´t wait for the next full length.

(news) New album from Drip-Fed, first single out NOW!

2b510a6f-2c1c-416c-a435-dfcb2310a71c

Returning from the band’s first European tour and with Colton Siegmund as the new drummer in their team, Drip-Fed set up a studio in their own place exactly one year ago and recorded their new album with guitarist Chris Skiles as the main producer. To give some final magic touches to the sound, they had Kill The Buzz mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin, The Bled, Moose Blood) and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, Touché Amoré, Torche).

Move Right Through Me is the first single off of Kill The Buzz and it kicks right in where the band’s self-titled album had ended. Kicking in with a hard knocking drum rhythm, followed by pissed vocals, heavy as well as fuzzy guitar sections and a groovy bass, the song delivers the perfect amount of power hardcore-punk fans need.

Lyrically, Move Right Through is about “moving through life in a haze. Spending each day in such a fog that the human experience isn’t fully felt and the passing time doesn’t mean shit” as singer Jeff Blum says, who wrote the song sitting in a laundromat.

Kill The Buzz will be released March 26th, through I.Corrupt.Records in Europe and Head2Wall Records in the US. Pre-Orders for vinyl and CD are available from www.icorruptrecords.com and www.head2wallrecords.com.

(review) Just Look Around – Freedom Remains e.p. (Modern Illusion Records)

The good people of Modern Illusion Records have another great release and this time it is Just Look Around from Germany and their e.p.

This young label continues to amaze with hitting straight in the eye with awesome hardcore releases and this one is no exception. There are seven songs on this e.p. and the music of Just Look Around can be described as heavy hardcore, harsh and fast, ferocious and moshing with many clever uses of samples between the songs, which I love and support always. If I must compare it to some bands I must say they remind me a lot of Earth Crisis in many songs, especially awesome Disruption, yet also of Madball in some faster song parts. Lyrics are good mixture of personal and political, featuring anti fascism, survival in this modern world, friendship and freedom. My personal favorites on this one are: Disruption, The good, the bad and the ugly, Freedom remains.
