Every year around first weekend in November the punk hardcore tribe gathers in our hometown Prostor club to celebrate life and times of those that are unfortunately no longer with us. Our sisters and our brothers who have fallen, too many to name here but always in our minds. We Salute You gigs represent all of our fallen ones, but they are symbolized in Tusta, the late singer of legendary Kud Idijoti and Danko Toplek, the brother from our hometown who passed away in 2014. These gigs are held every year with usually awesome line-up, this year it was time for Fraktura Mozga(Zagreb), Krešo I Kisele Kiše(Rijeka) and our hometown boys Partleki to do some serious partying here.

When we came out in front of Prostor, the kids were doing all the punk folklore stuff there, like drinking, smoking, hanging around and waiting for the gig to start. The gig was scheduled to start at 10 pm but like usual it started circa half an hour later. The first to open the night were FRAKTURA MOZGA, trio from Zagreb. I saw the guys play live only once prior to this gig on Tepih na Paleti festival in Slovenia in 2017. They don˙t play live really a lot although they have been on the scene since 2002.

I really love their melodic punk stuff with lyrics in Croatian language and their gigs are fun to watch with great communication with the crowd and the guitarist/vocalist Matija is the master in ranting bullshit between the songs and making all the kids laugh and keeping it positive.

Their lyrics are about drinking, some personal stuff, humour and a bit politics, but the songs never get boring.

They delivered set of songs from all of their releases with hits like Vampirska, Ljeto je, Život je sranje being combined with older material like Vikend panker, Direktna akcija…They surprised me when they covered Do What You Want by Bad Religion and Satan Panonski˙s Dragi sine moj. They finished the set with one of their biggest hits Božić je and all of the kids gathered in front of stage joined Matija singing chorus. I really loved their set, because they were the main band in tonight˙s line up as far as I am concerned, but they didn`t play two or three songs that I would like to hear live very much.

I went outside to drink some water and catch some fresh air from all the cigarettes being smoked in Prostor. That is why Slovenian clubs are better concerning cigarettes, all kids there smoke outside. When the club is full and hot, there is no air, there are cigarettes to choke you even more. Hopefully one day all the clubs in Croatia will be a non smoking inside zone.

While I gasped for air, the second band of the evening, KREŠO I KISELE KIŠE from Rijeka started to play their set. This band has been on the scene for a while now, releasing three studio and one live album. In the beginning they were not really my cup of tea. I saw them play live in Slovenia on Tepih na Paleti fest couple of months ago for the first time in my life and they delivered a killer set there. After that, I listened to all the albums and I changed my opinion and really started to love this band.

Krešo I Kisele Kiše play the music ideal for gigs and parties, melodic punk ska in the vein of Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and similar bands that are mixing melodic skatepunk and ska. They have two guys that are playing trumpest, okay one was playing tonight and one of the guitarists played bass, but no matter, they always amaze with the simplicity they play and how awesome their live set sounds. They delivered the set of 30-35 songs covering all of their releases and the kids really got crazy and enjoyed their show, singing along with fists in the air, pogoing  and slamming and the atmosphere was just great. This band was ideal for this gig and put smiles on all of the faces in Prostor despite playing really long and exhaustive set.

The last band of the evening were our homeboys PARTLEKI. This band consists of ex Motorno Ulje vocalist Lazar playing bass and singing and the drummer and guitarist from Bakterije. They had an idea and formed the band which covers all the popular children songs turning them into mighty punkrock anthems.

They released on studio album till now, and the new one is being prepared and as the guys told me could be out until the next Summer maybe.

The kids really love and go crazy during Partleki set and this time was no exception. All the club was dancing, singing along, going crazy and frontman Lazar had great communication with the gathered crowd. They included all the songs from the debut album in their set, plus couple of more that will find their place on the new album and triumphantly ended one more in memoriam gig.

After the show, the fun continued with punk hardcore anthems played by the dj and people singing, dancing, drinking and celebrating like all of our fallen sisters and brothers celebrate if they see us. I must say thank you to all the crew who delivered this gig again this year and put all of the hard work making it possible. Rest in peace brothers and sisters, you are not gone. You live inside us. And one day, we will again be united as one!

The gig season started in our hometown and this fine package was just what we needed on Friday night after a long, working week to listen and watch some hardcore punk bands and see some kids jumping and going crazy.

When we arrived to Prostor around 9 pm, there was a decent amount of kids in front and in the yard doing all that punk hardcore folklore that is usual at every gig. The beginning of the gig was scheduled for around 10 pm and it started pretty much on time.

The first band on tonight˙s bill was Midnight Climax. This is an old school hardcore ultrafast and energetic band with members from our hometown, Koprivnica and Krapina. When they started to play a nice number of people entered the club and I was surprised to see so many people enjoying the show. We already featured the review of this band` s release on the pages of this zine, so I can say again, the guys play old style fast hardcore in the vein of Spermbirds, Circle Jerks and similar bands. I think they played all of their songs plus Spermbirds and Minor Threat covers. Their set was a bit chaotic, but it doesn` t matter, that is punk.

Next Socijalna Služba from Zagreb started to play their mighty set. I never saw these guys play live, their records are awesome, so I was looking forward what they will sound like. They paused a couple of years and this year is their tenth anniversary. I got what I came for and even more. The five guys played great energy filled hardcore punk set with fast songs, awesome melodies, the singer and the backing vocals both. This band is so good that they could have easily been one of the greatest bands on regional hardcore punk scene. They played approx 45 minutes and I loved every single second of the show. The only thing that bothered me is that a lot of kids rather stayed drinking and smoking outside than to support the band.

Kurve from Zagreb were a kind of headliners and they came here promoting their new e.p. which we reviewed recently for our zine. I only saw them play live once in Varaždin couple of years ago. They play a special mixture of punk, hardcore and rock n roll and I must say that their vocalist Vito is one of the best frontman in Croatian underground scene. They included in their set the songs from all three of their e.p.-s and the only thing that lacked was a greater number of kids who continued to hang around outside but the people who followed their set, did it with love. Another great gig  for the club gig season opening, I hope that there will be more soon.

One other thing. Some people had some complains about the photos in the gig reports of this zine. Let us get one thing straight. This zine is done from the heart and by the music enthusiasts for the music enthusiasts. We are not photographers. In fact, we hate recording gigs and we prefer to put our mobile phones in our pockets and enjoy the band and the music they make and not having phone and recording all set long. The photos don˙t matter, the music and impression it makes does. Enjoy the music and support the scene people. Nice job for the Prostor crew, who keeps up the great work here!

Well, it has been some time since we were last attending some gig at club Prostor in our hometown. On Friday it was time for the new gig season opening, so it was about time to see some interesting bands coming to our town.

While on tour, this interesting package stopped in our hometown and I was eager to see what kind of experience will Lvmen be, since it is more than a decade since I last saw them live.

Upon arriving to the club, I immediately saw that this time the attendance will be really great and I was happy to realize this. Almost according to the schedule, EMPHASIS from our hometown took the stage and began delivering their dark set of post metal with tortured vocals, empowered with some awesome samples in the background.

I saw them playing the same place couple of months ago, and if I am not mistaken they played the same list as back then, minus maybe a song or two.  For this gig they had a slight lineup change, because the drummer from Bednja played with them this time and the guy fit in just fine in their music. They are still promoting their Black Mother Earth album and they also had some nice merch for those who wanted to buy an lp or cd and maybe t-shirt. Their rolling set full of atmosphere lasted for about 45-50 minutes and then they finished to make space for the first guest band from Czech Republic.

I must admit that I have never heard of TOMAŠ PALUCHA prior to this gig, so I was interested to see and hear what is this band like and what they play. The music this band plays is some kind of atmospheric postrock indie with casual expedition to harder riffs and without vocals. They had a movie projected on the canvas behind them and it suited their music fine.

After couple of songs their music was just not really my cup of tea so I went out in front of the club to chat a bit with my friends and share a laugh or two.

Time passed and after about 50 minutes they finished their set and after a little stage makeover time has come for the headliner of this evening, LVMEN start to play. I first saw this band in our hometown like 20 or so years ago and couple of times after that. In the meantime, the guys tragically lost two members who passed away, broke up, reformed and last year they  released the new album.

Ominous intro backed up with wicked movie collage on the canvas above stage marked the beginning of their set. How to describe the music? It is some mixture of Neurosis styled hardcore, post metal, sludge core and it just can´t be described because over the years the guys developed their unique style with screamed vocals, rolling dark riffs, two drummers, samples, loops and the projections that make one dark and adorable whole. Almost without pause Lvmen played five or six songs in their set and after 50 minutes this wonderful dark audio visual experience finished. I was a bit tired and my ears were humming but I went home happy after yet another great gig I saw and heard.
