The Lockdown is no stranger to this zine, because I already wrote about the first single by this project that started in March 2020 during lockdown by none other than Fab, main honcho of Effervescence Records. Now, digital version of the full length record is out, vinyl version will be out in March.
What do we have here? 11 song of really beautiful melodic punk rock, bordering between nineties melodic punk I grew up on and love so much, also having some pop punk influences in the song structures. My personal favorites on this record are The Good Old Times, a bit calmer Old Memories, Different People with such great vocal and backing vocal harmonies that continue throughout the whole record, also Never Forget which is song I listened to over and over again, like the title song with fast and nice, melancholic vibe. Lyrics are personal and I can totally relate to most of the songs, and that is just what I need in my punk rock and hardcore records that I listen to. That is why I love this genre of punk so much. So, if you love your punk rock melodic and from the heart, go check out this one. I know I love it!
The good people of A-F Records gave us this great new small split between Ship Thieves(Hot Water Music) and Reconciler(ex Less Than Jake, Gunmoll). This is a very small single containing one new song from each band. Ship Thieves and their song Nothing Now is really great piece of melancholic melodic punk rock, Southern style, offering melody, kinda sadness and great singing and hum along parts which I love very much having listened to it couple of times in a row. Reconciler sounds a bit similar, having beautiful vocals, great song and such sweet chorus to the song. I really enjoyed both songs on this epic little release.
Besides being black metal country, Norway also has nice punk scene with great bands delivering awesome records. Dead Lips are from Bergen, Norway and this is their debut e.p. containing four songs. Music of Dead Lips can be described as mixture of melodic punk and pop punk with nice guitar lines, good vocal melodies, backing vocal harmonies and this little e.p. just made me feel good on Monday morning. One of my favorites is Sober, song that I listened to for couple of times on repeat with such fantastic melody showing that simple punk rock song can hit you in the eye some time. Ambulance is also great song, with really nice chorus and being kinda instant pop punk classic. Flip the Finger is also one of my highlights besides Sober. I Can´t Eat finishes the e.p. and in all it is a pretty strong debut. Can´t wait to hear the full length in the future.
