(review) Enemy Alliance-Damnation Dawning

cover

Enemy Alliance come from Sweden and this band features Rodrigo Alfaro of Satanic Surfers, Intensity, Atlas Losing Grip…and Stefan Bratt of No Fun At All, Atlas Losing Grip…This is the long awaited record and it features  13 songs, one being kinda outro. What to say? This record justified all the long days waiting because it is awesome.

Listening to the songs, we can not escape the comparison to the bands these two legends play or have played in. Trademark beautiful Rodrigo´s voice leads us through fast almost thrash metal punk hardcore angry songs, melodic skate punk fast parts to more gentle and emotional slower songs like fantastic Incarcerated or Final Warning. Also, I would like to say that Moth is also one of my favorite songs on this record, those violin parts or cello whatever it is, still make goosebumps on my skin. The guitar work is beautiful, riffs are catchy and aggressive at the same time, almost in some songs I can hear that nineties spirit and I feel I am still alive in that glorious time when we were kids. The third song I love somehow above the rest of the material is No Justice No Peace. Lyrics are superb mix of personal and political.

Fantastic record!

(review) The Tomb Tones-Pumpkin Guts

a2625485872_10

Boy I am glad that I am a part of horror scene and horror punk rock world. When I discover bands like this, whole world is a bit nicer for a moment. The Tomb Tones are hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. This record contains 7 beautiful songs, of a bit raw and retro, yet energetic horror punk the way it should be done. The way  I love it most.

The songs like Party of Horror Beach and Monster Movie are straightforward horror punk with nice melodies, awesome vocals and almost raw garage punk feel and vibe in the song structures. One of my favorites, My Girlfriend´s a Zombie is a half ballad inspired a bit with doo wop and rockabilly/psychobilly and having a sweet, sweet chorus. Next one, Devil´s Train of Death is also a bit psychobilly influenced bordering with classic rock riffs. Dracula´s Brother is one of the best songs on the record having almost wicked horror road movie vibe while listening, like a bit Americana touch in the song. Ghost Story is for me the song of the record, so gentle, a bit country influenced at the start, with beautiful lyrics about death and afterlife, being eternal in love. Sick Sense is maybe the most classic rock song having doo wop fifties influenced bridge and evolving into classic rock chorus. In all, superb little record, versatile and strong, like horror scene itself.

(review) The Obnoxious – The Undertaker(WTF Records)

3. WTF-041 Cover high res

The Obnoxious are old school hardcore punk band from Holland, and they have been pounding their music since 1989 so hats off to the guys in the band for persisting so long in the scene.

This is their new cd out with awesome WTF Records. What I love about the music of this band is that this sounds old school, has that old spirit somewhere between the riffs, fast drumming, gang back vocals, angry singer and leans more on streetpunk influences than on modern metal bands that consider themselves as hardcore. Of course there are some 90ies NYHC influences in some songs, I love it, because it is the music and kind of hardcore with which I have grown up as a hardcore kid back in the nineties since 1992. This cd contains three studio songs and six bonus songs recorded live. The band currently works on new material after some line-up changes. Grab this one, old school baby!
