Chaser are back! After their last record Sound The Sirens which was for me one of the best melodic punk albums in 2018. they are releasing their e.p. with two brand new songs called Look Alive and Found Myself Again.
As we are used from Chaser, they combine excellent musicianship with fantastic melodic voice, courtesy of singer Mike LeDonne and guitars of Bill Hockmuth(formerly of another great band Castoff), with pumping bass of Jesse Stopnitzky and superb drums of Davey Guy. The lyrics are cool, because they are personal and inspiring to drive forward and never surrender, but also through the lines you have to see the political situation too. Although both songs are superb, I somehow love the title song more, with Found Myself Again being more harsh in verse, transforming into awesome anthemic chorus just made for singing along like only Chaser can make. I cant wait to see these guys on tour in Europe again and witness old and new material because this band means so much to me.
Time for a band from Israel to grace the pages of this zine. Haifa to be exact. On their page Akrabut says that they are coming from the ghettos of Haifa. The music on this record sound just like that. There are six songs all being sung in Hebrew and they play raw and energetic hardcore punk with angry vocals which sail into some melodic waters here and there, almost crusty guitar riffs, darkened, almost apocalyptic atmosphere and some d-beat influenced song parts here and there. Unfortunately I really don´t know what the songs are about, so maybe they sing about political themes, maybe fun, maybe personal, I really don´t know. But, music speaks for itself that this is great e.p. for punx more oriented on the rawer side of things.
Fixion are hailling from Uruguay, being a brainchild of Daniel César (former bassist of Los Traidores), voice, guitar, keyboards and production. There are 10 songs on this record. The music of Fixion can be described as a mixture of electronic, gothic metal and post punk, thus creating a darkened amalgamation of mentioned styles into one unique and nice blend of darkness. The lyrics are in Spanish and this only emphasizes the darkened beauty of the music. I love the more uptempo gothic metal of Estreall interior, but also more guitar oriented title song is one of my favorites on this record. The vocals remind me a bit of singer for Heroes Del Silencio mixed with the voice of Moonspell´s singer, so they are cool and fit perfectly to the song structures. This is nothing above or special, but it is done in nice and superb way with one simple trick. Nothing too much. Not too much metal, not too much electronics, not too much post punk, but great written songs. Nice one indeed!
