(record review)Nionde Plagan-Reflektion(Zegema Beach Records)

Nionde Plagan are hardcore/screamo/punk band from Sweden and I listened and reviewed for our zine their new release out via Zegema Beach Records

cover

The guys from Jonkoping play their vision of hardcore mixed with screamo and punk influences. That means dissonant, almost sad vibe on this record with a lot of mid tempo atmospheric passages and emotional outbursts of energy. This record contains 8 songs and as I can hear they are all sung in Swedish, so I don´t understand the lyrics, but no matter, sometimes music speaks for itself instead of words. The vocals are harsh, often screamed, but they fit perfectly in noisy, yet melodic guitar work, coupled with smart arrangements in the drum and bass section of the band. This could be very nice experience watching and hearing this band play live. I hope I will one day soon. 15 to 20 years ago, I would discard this music as bullshit thinking only nyhc is real and if you are not tough, you are not into hardcore. But, being tough is living your life the best you can and dealing with problems the best you can and staying alive. So, hardcore is something else. This record is great. Recommended songs: Rex, Maskinerna, Diskrepans.

(record review)BKD-Balkan Oi!

Time for another band from the northern parts of Croatia. BKD from Varaždin released their new e.p. and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

This trio made of one girl and two boys have been around for a long time now and only in the recent years they gained the respect and fan base they deserved with their hard work throughout all of the years. After their great full length, now is the time for a three song brand new e.p. The lyrics are in Croatian language about working class, drinking, having fun and not carrying about politics and shit. The title song is a sarcastic ode about the typical redneck idiot and there is abundant of such shitheads in our country right now. Jebem ti radne subote(Fuck working Saturdays) is a theme known to all of us who ever worked on Saturday. Lepo je u raju(It is nice in Heaven, but…) is in my opinion the strongest and best song on this record with anthemic chorus and just made for singing along at the shows. The musicianship is tight, vocalist/bassist Ida sounds better when she sings melodic than when she shouts angry hehe. Cool record, only a bit more distortion on the guitar wouldn´t hurt, eh?

(record review)HOME CONFLICT-Life You Choose

Home Conflict are young punkrock band from Zagreb, Croatia. I listened and reviewed for our zine their debut album that came out couple of days ago.

53833650_2155778304541550_8433862004518682624_n

Formed in 2016.this relatively young punkrock band was focused on creating their own material since they started. They played couple of greater festivals in the country, polished the material, made two videos and now, time has come for the full album.

The record contains 12 songs of melodic, straightforward punkrock. What I love about their music is that the songs are simple, it seems to me that melodic punkrock somehow lost its touch for the last couple of years, all being technical Propagandhi clones and similar bands. But, there are couple of bands that still play that old school no complication, no bullshit punkrock, this one is one of such bands. They are also not third rate copy of Californian bands, but rather sound like early to mid nineties Running Party, Overflow and similar bands. Having violin in some songs like Pact With The Devil, which is awesome, reminded me of another band from Zagreb, Lobotomija. The lyrics are in English language and mainly deal with personal themes. Everyone knows that I very much care about the vocals in such bands, and the vocals here are done superb, they are neither too snotty and mellow, neither to harsh, they are just right and the guy is really special with his voice adding somehow to overall melancholy mixed with energy which I feel while listening to this record. Croatian punk/hardcore scene is better than ever in the last 25 year that I am a part of it, and Home Conflict is for sure a force to be counted in the scene. Favorite songs: Pact With The Devil, Purgatory, Letter To The God.
