(record review)Coming Out Swinging-Step Aside(WTF Records)

Coming Out Swinging

Coming Out Swinging are working class, no bullshit, no holds barred hardcore punk band with members from New York and Connecticut area. I listened and reviewed for our zine their new record out with WTF Records.

WTF-028 COVER

What immediately comes to mind when listening to this record is how old school sounding the music of this band is. I love it. Sounds like all that European and NYHC bands that I loved and grew up listening in the 1990-ies. The record contains 8 songs of dirty, maybe sometimes rock n roll sounding hardcore punk(F.M.L.), that old school hardcore anthemic riff, heard for thousandth time, but still gives you goosebumps(You Lose), lyrics bringing tears to life missing fallen bros and sisters(Forever-my personal favorite), dangerous moshing(Stand Up And Fight), Madball-esque songs(For You), street/oi(House Of Pain) and humour(Too Drunk To Bbq), has holding your pumping fist in the air all throughout the record. The singer sounds somehow to me like Dwid from Integrity circa Systems Overload era, which is awesome. The lyrics are usual hardcore themes, a bit clicheed, but they still turn the old spark in my heart into burning flames hehe. This is a great old school sounding hardcore record.

(record review)MILLENCOLIN-SOS(Epitaph)

Millencolin was one of the most important bands to the kids in our scene, my hometown and the region here in the 90-ies. I am very happy that they are still around and they are still up and kicking with the brand new album which I reviewed for this zine.

cover

Its been a couple of years since the last one, so I didn´t know what to expect with the new music. Millencolin are for me one of those bands that are better sounding on the albums than live, so I love their albums very much, but I don´t like their shows so much. The new album contains 12 nice songs of melodic 90-ies punkrock which takes me back to the time when I was a kid and all I wanted was to rock and hang out with my brothers and sisters. 25 years have passed, but I am still that kid in my heart. When the first single, the title song came out, I had the chorus of that song immediately in my ear and hummed it all day long and still do now. There is the quartet of awesome great songs on this record being the title song, Carry On, Nothing(my personal favorite), and Sour Days which are true punkrock anthems. The rest of the material is not so good as those mentioned above, but enough to make this a good album, one of those that grows better and better to your heart every listening. If you love your punkrock fast, without complicating, anthemic, grab this new album by this Swedish legends.

(record review)GLUE EAR!-Pizza Skate(Horn & Hoof Records)

GEP

Manchester and whole of UK punk hardcore scene is pulsating and vibrating with awesome bands, labels, promoters, zines and I love it! I also love discovering excellent new bands like Glue Ear!, trio from Manchester, UK, whose new release on Horn & Hoof Records I listened and reviewed for our zine.

Skate Pizza

I don´t really know how to describe this release, is it double single, or is it mini e.p., who really cares? These guys mix punk, hardcore and ska and there are two songs on this release. Hoax is more of a ska punk song, but also having great melody and hardcore parts. Mr Plastic is straightforward a bit raw punk song with melody and tightness just made for pogoing and jumping around with your mohawk in the air hehe. This is a good band, but I wish there is more material on the record, because there is just too few songs to listen to and I like the band. I wait eagerly for the more material from Glue Ear!
