(review) INSTILL – ‘Demo’ (AMBUSH! Records)

INSTILL released this new demo with five songs and it is a blast! I mean really, a lessson in fastcore, hardcore punk powerviolence with all songs being under a minute reminding me of Senata Fox and similar bands. Screaming vocals, blasting drums, distorted bass and thundering sound, this one has it all. There is not much to write about this one, because it is such a short one, but if you are a fan of powerviolence hardcore punk you won’t regret if you check out this demo.

(review) Grindpad – Finger Collector Crew (Iron Shield Records)

This is the fifth EP by this European thrash metal crew! First, I must say that the cover of the release is so great, I really love it! There are five songs on this one. The music is thrash metal, but more on European school of thrash metal than Bay Area or other American counterparts. There are songs about sharks like for example ‘Santa Cruz(Sharkbite PT II) but to me the biggest winner is the sort of title track called ‘Yakuza Finger Collector Crew’. Besides harsh riffs and fast drumming there are also moshing parts and couple of great melodies thrown in for a good measure. So, if you are into great thrash metal, check this one out.

(tv series) Star Wars: Ahsoka

Ahsoka Tano, former Jedi knight investigates threat imminent to the young New Republic, because rumors continue that legendary Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn is not dead and is coming back. Rosario Dawson is excellent as Ahsoka Tano but many will not recognize characters of Sabine Wren or Ezra Bridger if they didn’t watch Star Wars Rebels animated series because this one I consider real continuation of that series. Action in these eight episodes is satisfiable, characters written good and I love Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn, also unfortunately late Ray Stevenson was brilliant as new character, fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll. Finale of the first season was also good and decently done, so we can expect season two some time in the future. Thrawn and his Night Troopers are enigmatic and charismatic enough as villains to carry the series also the witches of Dathomir, Night Sisters were done superb. I don’t want to spoil the story to someone who didn’t watch it yet, but it connects many dots in SW expanded universum with Anakin Skywalker appearing, so I enjoyed this one very much. There are no filler episodes.

Conclusion: 8 / 10 axes Eight episodes left me wishing for more.
