(record review)VARIOUS ARTISTS-“Aussie Epitaph Records Tribute”(Dead Memory Records)

Punk hardcore record label from Melbourne, Australia Dead Memory Records released this fine compilation as an Australian tribute to the awesome Epitaph Records. I listened to the record and reviewed it for this webzine.

I will just name the songs and the bands that I personally liked on this record. I just love Australian punk hardcore scene, I mentioned it before, it is such a rich and great scene with many bands coming to my ears every month and it is just awesome that music binds us together across half of the world distance. The record contains 15 songs varying in covers from metalcore to old school Epitaph classic melodic punk bands. I love Last covering “All I Want” by The Offspring. No Quarter did a fine job with “Greed”(Pennywise). The Phosphorus Bombs medley of Bad Religion songs is cracking with energy and makes you wanna dance all over your room while listening to the music. Dal Failure of NOFX˙s “The Bag” is atmospheric and nice. Incomplete covered Bad Religion “Do What You Want” with acoustic atmospheric start turning into fast punkrock anthem this song really is. The Orphan version of The Offspring˙s “Bad Habit” in metalcore style was just terrible for me. I am not going to reveal more songs and what bands they cover, you just have to find out for yourselves. This is a good compilation with more good than bad songs and a nice tribute to the label whose bands influenced so many of us.

(record review)Teeth Cutter-Demo

I already said in a couple of features of this zine that I consider the underground scene to be a living, breathing thing, constantly shifting, in motion and evolving this way or that.

It constantly throws out on it´s shores new bands, new awesome people, activists, labels and promoters. This time I listened and reviewed Teeth Cutter demo for our zine.

This trio hails from Newbugrh, NY and they play punkrock mixed with some hardcore influences, but this is all punk music. Their demo contains 4 songs and it´s recorded in basement, I think in their rehearsal room but no matter, the songs are awesome and I loved every minute of this demo. For me the best song on the demo is No Room to Breathe and I heard some d-beat in there but I am not sure, maybe it is only me. Given Guilt reminds me a lot of old school punk bands from the 80-ies like Black Flag and Circle Jerks springing to mind almost instantly. The guys put out their demo on Bandcamp for free or for name your price, so go get their demo, and if you download it, write them a line or two, I am sure they´ll appreciate it a lot.

(record review)PEACE OF MIND-PENANCE(Dead Serious Recordings)

Peace of Mind are part of the European hardcore scene, coming from Thuringian forest area in Germany. These guys have a new album via Dead Serious Recordings and I listened to the record and reviewed it for our webzine.

Artwork_PeaceOfMind_Penance

The album contains 12 songs of what we called new school hardcore back in the 90-ies. That means, the music of Peace of Mind reminds me of the crossbreed between Strife, Snapcase and 108. That might be only me, but this is how it sounds to me. The production on the record is crystal clear and the songs possess that angry vibe, energy that makes you wanna do something, not only sit and wait life will bring to you while you are passive.  I love apocalyptic vibe of War Never Changes or Perdition. Although I am a fan of faster, more old school stuff, this is a nice band for all you fans of modern hardcore played with heart, balls and conviction.
