(record review)BABE PATROL-“Rich and Bored e.p.”

Babe Patrol are hailing from NYC and were formed in 2011./2012. In the beginning they were more of a riot girrrl punk but through the years they evolved into more melodic and skatepunk band.

This new e.p. contains four songs. “Breathe” opens up filled with haunting and almost ethereal beautiful voice by the vocalist Jewels. She creates such epic melodies with her voice that made goosebumps on my skin. The record continues even better with “Can´t relax”, song with great ooo singalong chorus and fast energetic punkrock guitar riffs. Just when you think it can˙t get any better “Hide the trail” sweeps you off your feet being in my opinion the best song on this record that makes me wish that I wrote it. “911” closes the e.p. and leaving me desperately wanting more and waiting eagerly for the new full length record. This is one of the finer records that I have listened to lately.

(record review)The Apparents-“The Face May Change e.p.”

Apart from giving us The Highlander, William Wallace Braveheart, football and beautiful country for tourism, Scotland also gave us some great and legendary punk hardcore bands. Today we are talking about The Apparents and their e.p that I have listened and reviewed for this webzine.

The Apparents were formed upon ashes of some of the members˙ former bands, as the guys say, to play the kind of punkrock they would like to listen to. The record contains five songs of epic and melodic punkrock. “Nothing Is Set In Stone” is an anthem celebrating life and telling us that we should live every day of our live to the fullest because life shouldn´t be taken for granted. It is an awesome pure punkrock song. “Reali-TV” is a street punk song dedicated to the people losing their touch with reality by watching the screen and becoming slaves to the tv and not living their lives anymore. I loved this one, it has that Business/Cock Sparrer vibe. “This Is Scotland” is the story about the independence and being free from slavery and it is angry but also melodic punk song. “Tory Boy” is a politically charged song and it reminds me why punk formed up in the first place, as a fist in the eye of the establishment. Ir has an awesome oi bridge in the middle of the song. “Fuck Religion” shouldn`t need explaining, it is a strong stance antiwar and antireligious dogma song and I love every second. This is a very strong record. Can˙t wait for the full length!

(record review)THESE FAST TIMES-“On the other side of fear”(Thousand Islands Records)

Formed in 2015.from the ashes of some bands that the members had before, These Fast Times from Montreal, Canada hit me in my chin with their new record scheduled to come out in cooperation with Thousand Islands Records. I am very happy because I listened and reviewed this new record for this webzine.

The album contains 12 songs of melodic punk. After a kind of intro “Falling in love”, the fast paced “It`s not just me” hits the listener with simple, but effective song structure, chorus that you can hum to and a little snotty vocals but fortunately pleasent to the ear. There are also some pop punk and emo influences like for instance in “Ashley Madison”. These Fast Times own more to bands like Nothington or The Menzingers in their song structures than to Nofx or No Use For A Name. On the whole, this album wakes some kind of sadness in me, makes me melancholic and regretting some things I have done in my life, but the music and lyrics are also uplifting and full of hope for the future, like “The grind” or “That was easy”. This music is perfect for a Saturday sunny daydreaming and thinking about the future and the past and the things we reflect upon this world as human beings. Above all, this is great melodic punk with heart, soul, balls and emotions.
