(record review)THE CRIMSON GHOSTS-“Yet Not Human”(Ring of Fire Records)

Yes! Finally, the bloody grin is back on my tired skull, meaning that the new The Crimson Ghosts album is out after long and dark years of waiting for another full length to arrive after the awesome “Generation Gore”.

“Yet Not Human” is the fifth full length of German horrorpunk legends, the band that inspired me a lot and for me the best European horrorpunk band ever. After eight years and some drummer lineup changes, I was eager to hear how this album will sound like. Judging by the awesome single “Don´t Follow” for which the video was made, I expected something awesome, this song is mid tempo horrorpunk anthem with memorable guitar melody and Vlad´s vocals sound better than ever. Besides that song, there are 12 more songs on this record and this record is in my opinion different than their previous releases. The record is still full of classic The Crimson Ghosts anthemic melodies, choruses made for singing along and I am eager to hear one day how this new material will sound like live. The band managed to find the perfect blend of horrorpunk, metal and harsher fast hardcore punk music. They also managed not to repeat themselves and stay original through all the years. “A Mother´s Heart” is touching Psycho inspired horrorpunk anthem which I love. I also loved “Rebirth” which is one of my favourite songs on the record having a chorus which made goosebumps on my skin. Perfect metal influences can be heard in “S.A.L.I.G.I.A.” and the awesome and mighty “Patient Zero”. There is one unusual, slower, rolling song “Ego sum qui intus habitat” which has a very evil and ominous atmosphere and I loved it. Vlad is singing his dark soul out, proving to be one of the best horrorpunk vocals of all times out there. The rest of the crew is tighter musically than ever, creating an energetic wave with their music. Like it is already tradition, there is also one song with lyrics in German, being “Leichenschmaus”. After hearing this album on repeat for ten times, I can only congratulate The Crimson Ghosts on their triumphant return!

(record review)Robby Bloodshed-“21 and On”

Robby Bloodshed is an American musician that has been around for a while with this solo project since he started it in 2009. He has also gathered much experience being in many bands through the years.

This is is his new full length album and I am really glad that I had a chance to review this one for my zine. I said it before and I will say it again, the beauty of horrorpunk scene lies in many influences making the music original, wide scoped and beautiful. The music of Robby Bloodshed lies between horrorpunk, punkrock and 80-ies pop influences making it original. This album contains 11 songs of melodic, inspirational and emotional listening experience. The lyrics have some horror themes but they are also very personal and emotional and I could find myself in them, so this means the lyrics are great. The pop influence can be heard in “”Light the way” and I could also hear some classic hardrock in “Elation”. But, the song that I loved the most on this album is “West Nickel Mine Massacre” being very dark, with piano atmospheric beginning emphasizing the gloomy atmosphere of the song. In all, this is great album which both horrorpunks and metalheads and rockers will like.

(horror movie review)It Kills(2017.)

The top three of my favourite horror subgenres are slasher, found footage and Hammer horror movies. This one nominally belongs to the slasher subgenre and don´t get me wrong, I love great underground horror, made diy or with little budget, because we often forget that it is the great story that makes good horror movie, not the budget or the effects.

It kills is the writer´s debut for Amy Suzuki, the makeup artist for “Jurassic Prey” and she really botched her job. The classic story used so many times in slasher movies about couple of kids whose car breaks just in the vicinity of so called Camp Blood where evil clown stalks and kills the passengers is so fucked up and used so casual and trashy that not even I could swallow this one, and believe me I saw a lot. The movie was directed by Mark Polonia, known as an editor for “Sharkenstein” and “Land Shark” and the movie is directed like my neighbours ten year old kid did it. Let me say something about the actors and characters, it is soo bad that it made me laugh but I think that this movie was not meant to be a comedy. The guy in the wheelchair especially got on my nerves, was his character some hommage to “Friday the 13th part two” or Bava´s “A Bay of Blood”? Doubt it. The clown is a story for himself. The maniacal killer is so lousy and his mask is a disaster. The gore scenes in the movie are made with cartoon blood and everything pretty much sucks. When I see my review from the beggining up to here, I see that I did not mention any good points about this movie. That´s right. Because there is not a single good thing about this one. Avoid at all cost!
