(record review)GOATMARE AND THE HELLSPADES-“Decomposed”

The new Goatmare and the Hellspades album is out finally! I have been waiting for this album for a long time and when I heard some of the new songs live I knew that the album will be awesome.

The mainman Slavko Goatmare and crew really did it this time. The album contains intro plus 13 tracks of excellent horrorpunk. The new songs are logical continuation where the debut album left off. The lyrics are in Serbian language with a lot of gore stuff but also some tongue in cheek black humour. The song structures are very melodic and just make you sing and hum to the excellent tunes all the time. This band really took the top and became the crown jewel of horrorpunk scene in this region together with Croatian Saucesce. Even if you are not from ex Yugoslavia or Serbia area, you should definitely check out and listen to Goatmare and the Hellspades because this band is awesome. If you want lyric translation, ask them and I am sure they will explain them and translate them to English forya.

(record review)DEAF AUTUMN-“The Shape”(This is Core)

Deaf Autumn is an Italian band that is relatively new on the scene, being formed in 2013. This trio blends their hardcore, punk, nu metal and rock influences into a unique experience of heartfelt music. Through the years they released the debut album, made some quality videos and made themselves a formidable fan base.

2017.came and with it, the guys started to record the second full length new album with a new drummer and another guitar player, now functioning as a quartet. The album is finished and This is Core renewed their trust in Deaf Autumn making it the perfect label to release this new album.

The album contains ten songs in English language with a lot of melody and now as I listened to it I feel kinda sad afterwards but also kinda hopeful. The music is harsh with shouted lyric parts and melodic clean vocal choruses, so fans of such combinations like I am will be satisfied. There are also some calmer more atmospheric songs like “Love Pretender” with beautiful interplay between male and female vocals. I also loved “Over me” very much because it combined aggression with melody in a way that was so emotional, angry, but also totally nice. All of the songs on the album are great, so it was really hard for me to pick some highlights.  Deaf Autumn will be big, I know it, and this album is one more proof that the Italian underground scene is one of my favourite European underground music scenes.

(record review)NO QUARTER-“Freedom”(Melodic Punk Style)

I have already said it million times on the pages of this zine, but I will say it again. Australian punk hardcore scene rules! There are so many great bands coming out like Clowns, Toe To Toe, not to mention others because this time we will concentrate on the new album by No Quarter.

cover

Hailing from Hunter Valley area, these guys have been rocking for circa 15 years now, with some lineup adjustments here and there.

The new album contains twelve songs of melodic hardcore played with heart, soul and balls for us to enjoy while we skate, drink beer, wander around on a sunny day and do whatever the fuck pleases us to do, because that is the point of freedom isnt it? Lyrically, No Quarter cleverly mixes personal issues and funny themes with some subtle political undertones. The title track lulls us with its slower beggining and then opens up in a beautiful fast paced melodic anthem. These guys are really tight with their instruments and know how to play their stuff, that is evident throughout the album. What I cant stand on the melodic punk records is cheesy, snotty, singing and lousy back  vocals. No Quarter did everything right in this compartment too! Great singing, great harmonised back vocals made me enjoy this record very much. I loved the metallic influenced chugga chugga guitars in “Second Rate” turning into nice melodic chorus. This is a great melodic hardcore punk album made by the fans of such music for the fans of such music.
