(record reviews)BOOZE AND GLORY:”Chapter IV”(Burning Heart)

Cover

As the title says, this is the fourth studio album by these London based street punk heroes, the first to come out on mighty Burning Heart label. Although the band has gone through lineup changes in the last couple of years, they endured through the hard times and made one of their best albums up to date. This album contains 13 songs of pure street punk oi pleasure for your ears. The songs are excellently arranged, with anthemic choruses just made to sing along, great hooks and guitar melodies and the production is crystal clear and you can hear just everything and understand the lyrics without the lyric sheet. As far as the lyrics go, they just hit the spot where they need to and after listening to this album your heart is just full and you want more. So you put it on again, and again and again. This means that the album is not good, but excellent. Top songs:”Days, Months, Years”, “Carry On”, “For The Better Times”, but all songs rule!

(record review)ARGYLE GOOLSBY:”Darken Your Doorstep”(A Corpse With No Name Productions)

Wow! This is all I can say after listening to the new album by this horrorpunk legend! I love all his work with Blitzkid and the impact that they had on the scene through the years was enormous. They filled the hole that was left when The Misfits were gone and they remade the ugly face of horrorpunk with their originality and simplicity. After Blitzkid disbanded in 2012.Argyle proceeded with his solo career and now he made the new album that is kind of logical continuance of his work with Blitzkid but also so much more. The intro features guest vocals by Coffin Joe, the cult and famous Brasilian horror icon. The 16 songs featured are horrorpunk for the 21st century, energetic, melodic with a nostalgic nod towards the scene pioneers and icons, but also something that is evolved and became much more that the early horrorpunk songmaking. Every song is great but if I must choose some top songs that would be:”The Brides”, “Rose Grows Red”, “Nightsurf” and the old fave “Washer At The Ford”. For sure the best horrorpunk record in last decade!

(record review)WOLFBRIGADE:”Run With The Hunted”(Southern Lord)

cover

I never loved crust punk apart for some exceptions. One of those exceptions is Wolfbrigade. Their unique blend of crust hardcore punk and melodic Swedish Gothenburg tuned guitar riffs always hits me in the eye. This is their ninth studio album, but this being the second for the mighty label Southern Lord. The album itself is an energetic tour de force, stopping approximately at half an hours time. There are ten songs on this record, all are equaly great, there are absolutely no fillers on this album. This is an album that crusty punks will love, but also this album can easily be listened and loved by a metalhead who likes melodic Swedish death metal. Since I am a sucker for stuff like this, the album is on repeat listening for the last couple of days. Great stuff by great band! Top songs:”Warsaw Speedwolf”, “Kallocain”, “War on Rules”
