The number on the name Cobra 1981 refers to the year that the band was founded in Finnish town of Kuortane. It’s not that typical that over 40 year old heavy metal band releases their debut single. But who says that you cannot beging your career as a recording artist when you are over 60? Here it is, the song “Vanha Kuoma” from 1980’s performed with today’s experience and skills.

Their debut album will be released in spring 2024. Some of the songs are almost 40 years old and some more recent compositions. The band’s line-up consists all the founding members with couple of new recruitments of witch the youngest just celebrated his 50th birthday.

The album is energetic there is high tempo songs with heavy metal vocals and cinematic lyrics in the spirit of NWOBHM. On the other songs the atmosphere is ominous and on some parts power ballad -like. The album has been captured as studio live so the tight played experienced touch has a hint of roughness in it.

“Vanha Kuoma” is a story about a sea captain who in his darkest moment lean into his most precious treasure and his best friend – the ship . But the sea is merciless and the captain cannot escape his destiny.

Technical blackened death metal band Ulterror from Finland releases the first single from the upcoming debut album

Cover artwork for the album “Transcendent Origins” to be released on March 29 2024

2019 founded Finnish technical blackened death metal band Ulterror has released the first single from their upcoming debut album.

The Greater Sublimations of Cosmic Panic tells a story of a spacecraft’s crewmember who gets left behind in space. The Eye of the Necrocosm is an entity that tirelessly guards the liminal space between universes and monitors its territory in case of intruders. According to Lovecraftian tradition, anyone that meets the gaze of the Eye shall succumb to sheer unreasonable terror. The protagonist of the song faces his final moment, being left behind and abandoned amidst the aether, while this ageless being breaks his mind once and for all.

This track is an apt representation of the album’s soundscape as a whole. The diverse soundscape combines various layers of slamming riffs and bellowing vocals which help create an interesting blend of captivating and aggressive metal music.
