(review) ROBBERY – ‘Demo’

ROBBERY are hailing from Montpelier, Vermont and this is their four song demo delivering some mighty punk rock. Let’s explain song by song:

‘Animal’ – old school mid tempo punk rock song with enough rawness and melody to be appealing to fans of more melodic side of things, but also raw punk rock fans. Good vocals, following guitar melody and more talking and shouting than really singing, reminded me of Biafra at times on this song.

‘New Routine’ – is a song about routines we all have in life, but with touch of humor and self irony, mid tempo punk rock with a slight pop punk touch yet still raw guitars and thundering bass and drums deliver pure punk energy,

‘Dancin’ With A G.I.’ – I hear a lot of Ramones and pop punk influences in this one, I guess that might be because of that melancholic and great main guitar melody. Great one.

‘Back To Basics’ – song about not wanting to go to war, about today’s state of the world and being somehow hardest and harshest song on the record but still melodic. My favorite.

(new video) Punk supergroup Versus The World released video for ‘Roadsick/Roadsick’!

The music video for Versus The Worlds’ first new single ‘Roadsick/Roadsick’ is out. With it the band builds a bridge to their last album ‘Roadsick/Homesick’ – the song is stylistically similar to their ‘advanced pop-punk’, which already goes slightly in the emo direction. On their upcoming album The Bastards Live Forever (May 2023) Versus The World show their finesse in post-punk as before.

The band consisting of prominent members of bands like Lagwagon or Good Riddance, is on European tour this summer.

The post-punk band featuring members of Lagwagon, Good Riddance announce new album ‘The Bastards Live Forever’

‘I can’t tell you how much work went into this collection of songs. I’d always been taught that if what you were working on wasn’t (what you thought) was your best… start over. Never put anything into the world that you were not absolutely sure of.’, says singer Donald Ashley Spence.

And that is what happened: ‘The Bastards Live Forever’ is due May 2023 via SBÄM Records and consists of 11 songs crafted to perfection. VTW’s unique style of melodic post-punk elevates every member’s skill from their other projects including Chris Flippin of Lagwagon. Obviously Versus The World are not all about musical craft but you can hear a passion and an urge to scream out deeply rooted feelings in every syllable throughout the record.
