(news)BLACK ALTAR – new line-up and upcoming releases

After 14 years since the last line-up changes Black Altar is no longer a one-man project.  Shadow (bass, vocals) was joined by M.A. (guitar, vocals), E.R. (drums) – both from ONDSKAPT, and T.R. (guitar) from SPIRITS WAY. After successful split with BEASTCRAFT, new line-up has just started working on the new mini album “Nekromantic Revelations”. The music on it will differ from the already know Black Altar’s style, it will be slower, more mystical and haunted. The material will be recorded by the end of this year/ beginning of 2019 in Sweden.

(news) UK death metallers Nihil Eyes to release “Black Path” via Ultraje on May 18th

UK death metallers Nihil Eyes have signed a deal with Portugal’s Ultraje to release their debut full-length “Black Path” for the first time on CD format on May 18th 2018.

“Black Path” offers a glimpse into the darkest aspects of the human psyche, exploring motivations for people’s darkest intentions. Topics include homicide, suicide, narcissism, mental instability and political corruption, all through different perspectives and approaches regarding composition and subject matter.

With the intention of making that kind of record that they would like to hear and play live, the British band Nihil Eyes offers eight tracks featuring a unique intensity in the contemporary European death metal scene, with excruciating riffs, guitar leads drawn from nowhere, horrifying voices and a musical aesthetic perception out of the ordinary. Heaviness, intensity, emotion and an honest representation of Nihil Eyes is what you can expect from this “Black Path”. Suitable for fans of Carcass and Bolt Thrower.

Pre-orders are now available at this location with free shipping worldwide: https://ultraje.bandcamp.com/album/black-path

(record review)Ode in Black-“Seeds of Chaos”

The beauty and variety made Finnish underground scene one of the best European scenes. Ode in Black are part of that scene. After releasing their first ep in 2014.they toured a lot before they embarked upon a mission to release their debut album

cover_1517484834455473

2018.saw the coming of “Seeds of Chaos” and it consists of eleven tracks of melodic gothic metal/dark rock not unlike the early releases of their countrymen To/Die/For. The guitar structures and riffs are sharp enough to be metal, but all is packed in very dancable gothic rythms, and I can imagine their songs being played in some dark, smokey gothic club and bunch of goths dancing to these tunes. I loved the interaction between male and female vocals in “The sea in which we drown”. The album as a whole is very upbeat and melodic, but what I love about all Finnish bands, whether black metal, gothic, metal or death metal is a sense of quiet despair and melancholy that revolves as silent mist through the songs on their albums. Ode in Black is no exception to that rule. They just took the dark humour and metal of Sentenced and gothic sensibility of To/Die/For and 69 Eyes and packed it in one excellent package! Top songs: “The lone wolf”, “Burn  the candle from both ends”.

8,5/10
