Canadian punkrockers Burning Nickels are releasing their brand new e.p. with High End Denim Records. I must admit that I have never listened to this band prior to this release, but now I am happy that I discovered another great band for my listening pleasure. This e.p. contains four songs, first Bootstraps which features guest performance by Sam Russo this song has such beautiful dual vocal harmonies that are so sweet topped with awesome main song melody and energetic drumming and fast parts, that make this one epic listening. The music of Burning Nickels is melodic punk, bordering somewhere between faster skate punk and nineties melodic punk that I love so much. The title song was released prior to this record, it features guest performance by Dannyboy from The Corps and it is my personal favorite with such strong goosebump making melody and superbly written. Sentiment features guest performance by Alex from Debt Neglector and is another testament why I love melodic punk so much and why it is is one of the best things on this planet besides chocolate pudding. This one also features clever use of samples and I love when bands do that. Summer Boner is more of a pop punk song, being easy, full of uplifting yet somehow melancholic vibe and this is a great little e.p. I can´t wait for the full length to come out.
Trashed Ambulance from Alberta, Canada are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine and I am glad we kicked off 2021 with their new e.p. out digital with Thousand Islands Records.
There are three songs on this e.p. For those who don´t know it yet, Trashed Ambulance play more technical version of epic and fantastic melodic fast skate punk, bordering somewhere between old school nineties melodic punk I love so much and newer technical modern skate punk with fantastic guitar work and songwriting coupled with some of the sweetest harmonies and melodies I have listened in a while. Vocals remind me a bit of mixture between Fat Mike and Chris from Propagandhi, great voice, but maybe only I hear that similarity. On The Mend is fast song, having melancholic line throughout whole song, being my personal favorite on this record. The title song is punk rock song with awesome chorus just made for singing and humming along whole day after you finished listening to the record. Throughout all songs, there is a soft, melancholic, almost sad and nostalgic vibe that I feel while listening, but I love the feeling that music gives me. Delinquent is the last song and it is again song that leaves you only wanting more and more. Can´t wait for the next full length.
This band was already featured on the pages of our zine when we reviewed their record. The band worked hard, played their gigs and here is the new e.p. These trio from Calgary, Alberta, Canada play horrorpunk with a lot psychobilly influences and they have upright bass. They remind me a lot of Koffin Kats with very fast, energetic and anthemic horrorpunk blasting from the speakers while listening to the record. There are 5 songs on this record and I am happy to hear how this band progressed with time playing tighter, more catchy and super songs with a lot of oooos and aaas and cool lyrics just made for singing along. Off this record my personal favorites are War Of The Monsters and Satanic Mastermind. Fine record indeed. Halloween is close, but do not listen horrorpunk only on Halloween, do it every day!
