(review) Causam – Doomsday Rapture

cover

Causam are hailing from Switzerland and this is their first full length album. This record contains eight songs, one being intro. Music of Causam can be described as fast yet melodic black metal. Their music creates atmosphere of aggression, sorrow, despair, yet at the same time melancholy with excellent melodies and guitar work. Drumming is mainly blast beats, yet turning at times into beautiful atmospheric passages just reminding me why I love black metal so much, being best music for expressing all of your emotions. My personal favorites are Beauty of Decay and Eternal, although all of the songs are just excellent. Vocals are black metal screeching but being perfect and fitting fantastic to the song structures. The lyrical themes are more deep and personal than in your face Satanic verses and the mixture of epic music and great lyrics make this one of the best black metal records that came out this year until now.

(review) Abstract Dream – A Vision Among the Stars

folder

Abstract Dream is a side project from Swann of Shandrazel and Dark Arkana. There are 6 songs on this record. The music of Abstract Dream is French atmospheric black metal with longer songs creating primitive, anguished, almost ritualistic atmosphere through repeating guitar riffs, fast drums and growling/screeching vocals, yet returning to calmer atmospheric keyboard passages which are calming and soothing, yet at the same time warning about the storm coming.

The songwriting is well crafted, epic and my favorite song on this record would be A Journey To The Unknown having that mid tempo melodic atmosphere, you can almost feel the night cold on your skin while listening to this one. Also, some songs are very long, but they do not get boring for one second, because the atmosphere of the whole record reminds me why I love black metal so much, because through this music you can have right feeling, right atmosphere, almost cathartic, yet also inspiring. So, this is a good record.

(record review)Garden of Hesperides-“Forest Journey Pt.III – Final Moments”(Bloody Mountain Records)

Garden of Hesperides is a third opus in the nature themed trilogy, first two were about forests and this third opus takes us on the journey into the mountains above the green vast forests. I listened and reviewed the record for this webzine.

This band is a one man solo project of an individual called Sxuperion and it came out on his small underground label Bloody Mountain Records. The information about this band project and about Sxuperion are scarce on the web because the guy likes to keep his privacy and is loyal to the underground values, almost all that is known is that he is hailing somewhere from California area. This record contains 6 songs of atmospheric, sad and depressed black metal which takes me to the mountains while listening and I can almost feel the cold, cruel but magnificent and majestic magic of the vast and eternal mountains. The production is old school black metal, with vocals being growly and low in the mix, fast parts changing with some acoustic and atmospheric ambiental passages. There are also some samples on this record, which I like a lot when some black metal band uses those to spice up the atmosphere on the record. If I must compare the music to someone, then it would be Arckanum, don´t know really if it really can be compared but somehow that springs to mind which is not a bad thing. In all, this is a decent atmospheric black metal record.

7/10
