Only Attitude Counts have been one of my favorite hardcore bands from Europe since the second half of the 90-ies. Now they have a new record with WTF Records and I have listened and reviewed it for our zine.
Vienna style hardcore is excellent because the guys in Only Attitude Counts, Spidercrew and couple other bands combine hardcore with streetpunk roots making anthems to singalong with, mosh, pogo and hug a sweaty brother or sister in the pit next to you. This new record is no exception to the rule. 16 anthems celebrate the 25 years history of the band and carry the banner of street hardcore high and proud with fast paced songs that make you pump your fist in the air. do a pogo pizzamaker style or mosh with couple of windmill styled dances. Hehe, who listens to hardcore will know what I mean by this. As the highlights of this album I would recommend All Ages, Powertrap, Pick Your Side, My Agenda. The album has a lot of guest appearances and contributions from Rykers, Deafness By Noise, Last Hope and many others. This is a great old school hardcore record for those of us who still believe.
Malaise are new hardcore band from Vienna, Austria. This is their demo released on tape with Hardcore For The Losers. I listened and reviewed for our zine.
There are four songs on this demo, meaning intro plus three songs. The music in the songs is not very fast, but more midtempo a bit harsh hardcore, but with very audible punk, mainly streetpunk influences. This is not your metalcore crap that tries to be hardcore nowadays, but pure hardcore punk with balls. The lyrics are personal as I can understand and deal with usual hardcore themes. The only faster song on the record is Debris while Dust of Death and Parasite are more slower but great songs. Good hardcore and good demo tape.
Escape Artists are soon releasing their final studio album after 11 years of existence as a band. I listened and reviewed the final record for our zine.
This Vienna, Austria based melodic skatepunk pop punk influenced band are going down to history with all guns blazing blasting their swansong with 8 melodic punkrock songs Europan style, not unlike Bambix, This Side Up and similar bands. From the faster skatepunk influenced title song, accross serious sounding Addiction Turns Into Fiction four guys and a girl deliver just great music just made to singalong and hum to all day. One of the highlights of the album for me is definitely Even Angels Need To Learn How To Fly, beautiful song indeed. Wake Up is another song with awesome vocal melodies courtesy of singer Pia. I love this girl´s voice, neither too mellow, nor too harsh, ideal for this kind of music backed with wonderful backing vocal harmonies and melodies. One of the songs I must also mention is Goodbye which ends the record and the band in a symbolic way, closing one era and opening another one. Good one.
