(record review) The Run Up-In Motion(Real Ghost Records)

Remember The Run Up? We already featured Bristol punks on the pages of our zine. This time they are releasing the new full length record with Real Ghost Records and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

Cover@3x-100

The new record contains 12 songs of beautiful melodic punkrock, modern, fresh yet still catchy and memorable. This is not your California styled melodic skatepunk, fast and crunchy, rather more emotional punk with heartfelt lyrics and something for everyone to find themselves in. From the more sped up and energetic Portraits, to midtempo anthemic Grip, The Run Up find themselves in complete control of our ears and emotions as listeners. One of my personal favorites is Your Omission, having a barrage of noise turning into melody and galloping punkrock drum force. Discretion and Sunsets continue in the same direction, but the real gems on this record come towards the end with The Run Up and Light It Up being true little stars in the crown of underground melodic punkrock for the 21st century. Try this one. This band gets only better and better with every release.

Hard touring band THE RUN UP (Bristol, UK) have announced that their new record will be released in time for their US tour following their popular ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’ EP which was released in November 2018.

The melodic punks have spent much of the last two years playing across Europe, crafting a name for themselves as one of the most exciting bands in the punk rock scene right now.

There is a plethora of labels releasing the record “It’s amazing to have so many rad labels and people involved with releasing our new record, we are truly honored” says Daniel, bassist. “We 10 long days in York recording with Dave Boothroyd at Reel Recording Studios and it was an amazing experience. Dave is a champion and has became a good friend through the experience. He pushed us and helped the record turn out to be what it is, our best yet by a long way.”

“We spoke to lots of labels, including some huge ones; we listened to our friends and took on all the advice we could. We needed to feel comfortable with how the release was going to be and we are so stoked with the labels involved. Real Ghost Records in the UK, Gunner Records in Europe and our new friends La Escalera Records (CA), Swamp Cabbage (FL), Money Pit Music (GA), Get Party (Canada) and &Vinyl (TN) in North America have all been a dream to work with. All amazing people who we are eternally grateful for for putting their  belief in us.”

The official relese date is 3rd October with the band hitting the US for a month-long tour and then head back tour Europe to conitue party with a further 3 weeks of touring.

WEATHERSTATE announce debut album ‘Born A Cynic’ Set for release May 10 via Wiretap Records

Bristol punk band Weatherstate have announced that their debut album ‘Born A Cynic’ will be released May 10 via Wiretap Records in North America and Failure By Design in UK/EU.

They’ve also revealed a new single ‘Brain Dead’, with a music video to go with.

Vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins says “Brain Dead is a song about disconnecting your feelings from yourself and your surroundings but enjoying every minute of it. This was one of the first jams we wrote for the record and the breakdown stuck out as something new for us. It was cool to throw a bit of a spanner in the works.”

‘Born A Cynic’ was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Neil Kennedy & Daly George at The Ranch Production House. “We smashed out the initial recordings in 10 days during which I didn’t leave the studio for the entire time,” says guitarist Callan Milward. “It was freezing there and we were pretty pushed to get the whole record done. I remember suffering from some kind of sleep paralysis where I was tracking more rhythm guitars for the songs on the record in my sleep. This happened on a few of the nights.”

Such is Weatherstate’s dedication to their craft. “Sharing a room with a bandmate for 10 days can sometimes be challenging,” he continues. “I remember Harry essentially made his bunk bed into a literal bin which enticed a few rodents in during the night. I guess it just comes with recording an album in an old barn? Pretty sure a rat died in one of the walls of the Black Lodge too during this session.”

Weatherstate have spent the past couple of years playing shows up and down the country, as well as out on mainland Europe, most recently ripping up stages with Canada’s The Dirty Nil. They released their ‘Dumbstruck’ EP in 2016, also on Failure By Design, and teased their first full length with a ripper of a single ‘Rotten Lungs’ at the tail end of last year. Weatherstate’s take on punk harks back to legendary pop-punk bands of the 90s whilst incorporating a new energy that makes them one to watch in 2019.
