Montreal-based skatepunk unit The Speakeasy has revealed a new single called “Sunday Blues”. The single is off the band’s upcoming EP “Tales From The Moonshiner Part Two: Requiem” due out October 20th via Thousand Islands Records. Here’s what frontman Karl Bullets stated about the song:

“Based on the Johnny Cash classic “Sunday Morning Coming Down”, Sunday Blues is about reminiscing a glorious weekend when all of a sudden the thought of going back to work creeps into your mind, the unavoidable cycle of life.”

About The Speakeasy:

Hailing from Montreal, The Speakeasy are best known for their energetic live performances with their blend of heavy skatepunk. Led upfront by Karl Bullets with his distinctive gravel-throated voice tone, the band caught everyone by surprise in 2019 when revealing the music video for “Death Sentence”. The same year saw the release of their debut EP “Tales From The Moonshiner Part 1: Death Sentence”, with songs like “The Night Of The Living Dead” and “Death Sentence” quickly becoming fans favorites.

In 2020 The Speakeasy joined Thousand Islands Records with plans of releasing a new EP entitled “Tales From The Moonshiner Part Two: Requiem”. The band provided a taste of the upcoming new offering with the release on September 14 of the “Sunday Blues” single.

“Tales From The Moonshiner Part Two: Requiem” is scheduled for release on October 20th, 2020.

(review) Out in Style-Letters Never Sent

cover

Out in Style are Brasilian/Canadian melodic hardcore punk band and this is their second full length album that recently came out.

What do we get here? We have twelve songs of superb emotional driven melodic hardcore punk, somehow melancholic when listening, and it suits me just fine that way. Kinda sad vibe in the song structures, with some acoustic more atmospheric parts like for example awesome When Night Falls Fast at the beginning of the song, evolving into my personal favorite on the record. The lyrics are more personal and I can totally relate to them. The vocals are great, backing vocal harmonies too, and it is important for such bands to have great vocal lines added to already melodic guitar work. Other songs that I recommend as favorites are Time Is Passing By, Broken Inside and Today Is The Past. Superb stuff if you are into melodic, emotional hardcore punk. 9/10

Guilhem (Lost Love) announces vinyl release of debut full-length album Born & Bored!

Guilhem, singer of Montreal-based punk rock unit Lost Love, is thrilled to announce the vinyl release of his debut full-length album, Born & Bored.

Available since March via the most popular digital platforms, the album received the vinyl treatment in classic black vinyl, limited to 300. It can now be pre-ordered online through Thousand Islands Records, who is distributing the physical release via its Canada and USA webstores, with worldwide shipping options available.

Here’s what Guilhem stated about Born & Bored:

This album was recorded in December 2019 at Mountain City Studio in Montreal, QC. After playing 150+ solo shows, I thought it’d be a great idea to record a full-length album but I didn’t want to stick to an acoustic guitar and my voice so I decided to build these songs in “full-band” mode. “Born & Bored” is 94% DIY (see credits for the remaining 6%) and is released 100% independently by yours truly.

In this album, I talk about stressful stuff, hopeful stuff, depressing stuff, death and love. The excitement of feeling young and the disappointment of being bored.

About Guilhem:

A singer-songwriter whose style is hard to put in a box, Guilhem makes infectious pop rock that reflects his punk roots and eclectic musical influences. From mournful ballads to rollicking feel good anthems, his sound is unified by his deeply personal lyrics and keen ear for catchy melodies. A founding member of Lost Love, Guilhem has been performing solo since 2012; between the two projects he has performed over 500 times. After self-recording two EPs at home, 2017’s “Songs Songs of Lost Love” and 2018’s “Bad Art”, he released his debut full length in March of 2020. “Born & Bored”, recorded at Mountain City Studio by Adrian Popovich and produced by Hugo Mudie, but released 100% independently, sees Guilhem’s coming into his own as a solo artist, experimenting with more complex arrangements without compromising his distinctive sound.
