(review) Belvedere – Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense (Thousand Islands Records/Lockjaw Records)

folder

Canadian veterans Belvedere are back with new record helped by Thousand Islands Records and Lockjaw Records. This new effort offers thirteen songs of breakneck speed melodic punk hardcore with lots of technicality, yet at the same time retaining anthemic and melodic approach and appeal. The musicianship is fantastic, songwriting is by far one of the best in band´s long time career. Songs like Elephant March or Camera Obscura are bound to be your favorites for a long time. Steve´s vocals are better than ever and guitar solos, harmonies, catchy hooks and metal and hardcore influenced breaks and slower parts are superb, returning as again to beauty and basis of plain punk rock. Lyrics deal with topics that everyone can connect to. Song called Comrade featuring guest performance by Roger Lima from Less Than Jake is also one of my favorites on this one. Memento Mori features guest appearance by Dylan Toews from Wolfrik, also Rody Walker from Protest The Hero appears on Automate and these are really stellar guests on this record. But, Belvedere are real stars of this record. And it shines brighter than ever.

Punk rockers from Montreal, The Nailheads released new single and video!

killorbekilled

The Nailheads are a punk rock band from Montreal, Quebec Canada in 2008. The band was created and has been led by songwriter Ritchy Nails (lead vocals, bass, acoustic guitar), who has remained a constant presence and lead songwriter throughout the band’s first 3 full length releases. Live To See Tomorrow, is due for release on July 2nd, 2021 through Dental Records & Stand Productions, and is their 4th full length album, and first release since 2016.

The first single (Kill or Be Killed) has just been released.

On “Live To See Tomorrow”, Nails takes the role of storyteller to new heights, as he leads the listener on a punk inspired rock and roll journey, infused with elements of soul, R&B, folk-County, and gospel music. In the beginning, the band had more of a  “garage punk” style, but The Nailheads have been consistently developing their style into a more rock and roll, folk-country, and early R&B -influenced style of punk.  The band has toured extensively since their formation, having played well over 500 shows in seven countries, and continue to tour and record music.

It’s okay to ask for help. No one has done everything on their own. Nowhere To Go is an ode to everyone who has ever had to suck up their pride and do what they had to do to set their course on the right path.

About The Fly Downs:

Ottawa’s own Alternative-rock-infused Pop Punk band, The Fly Downs, have been making waves since October of 2016. A little over a year later they would release their well-received first EP, “Pockets Out”. After a release party and a couple more shows, Alex would join in January of 2018, joining forces with Jesse and Shane to bring a new dynamic to the rhythm section, helping set the stones for the future path of the band.

The Fly Downs have not really been compared to other bands, since their style is something of their own. Inspirations from all 3 bandmates mesh into one solid state and contribute to the overall sound and style. Inspirations include many of the bands they have shared the stage with: This Is A Standoff, Ten Foot Pole, The Human Project, The Mahones, W!nslow, and Down By Law to name a few.

The Fly Downs strive to entertain audiences and fans with a high energy and inclusive performance, often igniting group chants and sing-alongs with the audience. Never compromising catchiness for complexity, their songs are composed with a healthy blend of both. The lyrics often have outward-looking subject matter that many can hopefully find themselves in.

With the recent teaming up with Thousand Island Records and subsequent release of their debut full-length album, “At This Point In Time”, The Fly Downs are eager to hit the road again to share their music and make many more friends along the way.
