(record review)HOME CONFLICT-Life You Choose

Home Conflict are young punkrock band from Zagreb, Croatia. I listened and reviewed for our zine their debut album that came out couple of days ago.

Formed in 2016.this relatively young punkrock band was focused on creating their own material since they started. They played couple of greater festivals in the country, polished the material, made two videos and now, time has come for the full album.

The record contains 12 songs of melodic, straightforward punkrock. What I love about their music is that the songs are simple, it seems to me that melodic punkrock somehow lost its touch for the last couple of years, all being technical Propagandhi clones and similar bands. But, there are couple of bands that still play that old school no complication, no bullshit punkrock, this one is one of such bands. They are also not third rate copy of Californian bands, but rather sound like early to mid nineties Running Party, Overflow and similar bands. Having violin in some songs like Pact With The Devil, which is awesome, reminded me of another band from Zagreb, Lobotomija. The lyrics are in English language and mainly deal with personal themes. Everyone knows that I very much care about the vocals in such bands, and the vocals here are done superb, they are neither too snotty and mellow, neither to harsh, they are just right and the guy is really special with his voice adding somehow to overall melancholy mixed with energy which I feel while listening to this record. Croatian punk/hardcore scene is better than ever in the last 25 year that I am a part of it, and Home Conflict is for sure a force to be counted in the scene. Favorite songs: Pact With The Devil, Purgatory, Letter To The God.

(record review)FNC DIVERZANT-Stanica Dugave

I can´t believe, but new FNC Diverzant record is finally out! All these years the guys in the band were telling people they are preparing the new material for recording, but all of us, including me, were somehow sceptic about that information.

Actually, the rumours were true and here are 11 new songs, one of them cover by the legendary hardcore band from Kutina, Croatia called Razlog za. I grew up with the music of this band and I could totally relate to the lyrics of their early material since I lived in Zagreb for some time near their neighbourhood and I know what they are singing about. The music is still that melodic punk with lyrics in Croatian singing mostly personal lyrics but also having many political important themes between the lines, no Croatian band can be immune to politics considering the lousy state of our country right now with fascism and darkest urges being on the rise for a longer time now.  Somehow, I am a bit disappointed after listening to the album for couple of times now. After the single Čudne priče was released which is a total anthem I love so much, I expected all of the songs will be like that, but unfortunately that is not the case. Some songs are awesome, but some songs did not sit with me well for the first couple of times, like there is something missing within. Along with the aforementioned single, the other songs I love are Ajde stari, Ne, Ne, Ne and Nemam snage. The rest of the material sounds a bit weird to me, but I guess that is only shock and awe this record being finally out hehe.

(record review)ABERGAZ-Gušenje Robovlasničkoga Rada(GRR)

Abergaz just released new full length album, it is full length number seven if I am not mistaken and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

Gotta pay my respect to the Abergaz mainman axeman/vocalist Njec for being stubborn all these years and pushing the band on and on with countless releases, videos, singles, direct actions and performances. This Zagreb based hardcore punk band is now a one man band/project with Njec recording all the instruments, vocals and even performing alone live with the help of occasional live drummer.

This new full length album contains 23  songs. The last album was not so good in my opinion with quality of the songs not being on the level the earlier releases were in the past. This new album musically differs from the older material in a way that it is now closer to the 80-ies computer games sound with some rudimental industrial behind the conventional guitar riffs in the song structures. The lyrics are still mainly political, but also with many everyday Croatian life stories to which all of us can relate to.  The album is not boring in any way, time quickly passes while listening, but I just can not relate to the sound of Abergaz on this record, with earlier releases being much much better. I wonder what will Njec create on the next releases, with him being the individual who is not afraid to cross genre boundaries.
