(festival report)TRASH&BURN meeting 11-21.06./22.06.2019.

What would end of June every year be without Trash&Burn American cars meeting and music festival? The answer is I can˙t imagine it without this event. For the eleventh year in a row, thanks to Neven and his crew, this fine meeting goes on. We were there.

It all started on Friday, so we went there in the afternoon hours, to check out the atmosphere and feel the beat and smell the rubbers burning and motors running and listen to some great bands. When we arrived there we were awed how much people were there for the first day, how many cars were already there. I don´t remember that many people on Friday last couple of years. We mingled around, greeted some friends, drank a beer or two and checked out all the mighty American cars on display parked around and enjoying burning rubber and motors running loud.

Also, there was an awesome tattoo shop there and vintage stuff, like jewelry, clothing, handmade bags, great barber shop too, so the festival wouldn´t be complete without those things. The mosquitos were biting and drinking our blood like crazy because of the river Mura nearby and all the moist in the air. Fortunately for us, darkness fell upon the land and they were not so active anymore haha. The musical part of the festival started and we checked out great Hungarian band King Cat Rhythm. These guys play energetic rockabilly and I was very impressed with the guitarist/vocalist because he quickly changed guitar for piano during songs and he reminded me a lot of Jerry Lee Lewis. They played around one hour or more and the interaction with the crowd was great. People were dancing, cheering along and singing, enjoying themselves.

We were tired so we went to sleep and unfortunately we missed Irish The Bonnevilles but the people who watched them play their set told us that they rocked and were absolutely one of the festival highlights. We will definitely check ´em out next time when the opportunity arises.

Day two, Saturday is always the best one and most of the people arrive on Saturday from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and other countries. We waited for our friend to arrive from Zagreb and then ugly storm broke out and after it was finished we went to the festival, fearing that something was damaged by the storm, but fortunately the gods of rock n´roll were with us and everything was in order, no damage, even Sun showed its face again. We met with our friends from Monsterbilly Records crew there, who were preparing to install their merch there. Also, American psychobilly legends Koffin Kats were headlining that day, we met the guys did an interview with them for our zine and they are one of the most friendly and down to earth guys I have ever met. For musical part of the festival the stage was moved inside the tent due to rain. Pin up girl photo contest was held like every year for the annual Trash & Burn calender and all the girls were just stunning. Time flies when you have fun, so the gigs started and first to play Saturday were The Same Old Shoes from Italy. The guys rocked the stage with their rockabilly/old school rock n roll and the crowd danced and just wouldn´t let them off stage. Their set was really nice, bringing smiles and fun to everyone.

The headliners, psychobilly legends Koffin Kats from Detroit are in the middle of their European tour and we were very happy when Neven announced that they will play this year´s edition of the festival. Their set included all the oldies hits and with guitarist Tommy now again a permanent part of the band they returned somehow to their old school more faster stuff. Hits like Graveyard Tree, Chaos, For Hire, A Bottle Called, Giving Blood, V8 Nightmare, Witch In The Woods were making all sing along and dancing to their songs and they proved again being one of the best bands of this genre on this planet. Their set lasted for about one hour and time flies when you are having fun and all good things come to an end.

The fun was at its peak and Paisley Powder from Croatia closed the festival in style performing their garage set of rock n roll paying respect to the rock n roll of 60-ies delivering smiles, dancing, singing along and all the people in the crowd just rocked till early morning hours.

What is left to say? Thank you Neven and all the crew for making this year happen again and for bringing epic good times and memories for 11 years now. Keep up the good work and see you at number 12. Also, winter Trash will be the place we see each other again this year.

(gig report) Organizirani Kaos po dvadeset prvi put opet pokazao zašto je jedan od najdražih festivala.

Kutina je poznata kao mjesto u kojem je od 90-ih kada smo bili klinci underground scena bila jaka. Hrpa odličnih bendova, hrpa super prijateljskih ljudi koji su radili odlične koncerte i klub Baraka u kojem je svirao skoro svaki bend sa tadašnje domaće punk hardcore scene. Jednom godišnje ekipa je organizirala festival koji se zove Organizirani Kaos. Eto, danas nova generacija u Kutini radi odličan posao da održava scenu živom, u pripremi je nova Baraka, a festival se i ove godine održao na poznatom mjestu i to po dvadeset i prvi put!

Početkom tjedna je bilo malo povuci potegni što se tiče vremenske prognoze, ali kao da je znalo vrijeme je izdržalo i prekrasno je toplo popodne bilo kada se poprilično brojna ekspedicija sa sjevera uputila u Kutinu, kojih 130-ak kilometara od našeg grada. Brzo smo našli mjesto gdje se festival održava na zatvorenim nekadašnjim bazenima gdje je prelijepo mjesto za diy underground festival. Kada smo došli tamo održavao se popodnevni dio festivala koji je bio rezerviran za igre na otvorenom, cuganje, druženje i svirku na maloj improviziranoj bini, uspio sam uhvatiti zadnje dvije ili tri pjesme zagrebačkih Trophy Jump.

Bližila se večer i pala noć, pa je bilo vrijeme za početak glavnog dijela programa, kojeg je otvorio Zdenko Franjić sa svojim Lutajući DJ Zdena programom potpomognut ako sam dobro vidio sa kultnim likom Lou Profa.

Bina je ove godine bila smještena na drugoj strani festivalskog područja kako bi se organizatori osigurali u slučaju lošeg vremena. Jedina stvar koja mi je smetala su one vražje drvene palete ispred bine smještene jedna na drugu i kao stvorene za vrijeme festivala da zaboraviš, krivo staneš i spotakneš se ili uganeš nogu. Bar tri puta sam zaboravio i krivo stao, starost valjda.

Prvi bend koji je zasvirao su dno. Nikada prije nisam slušao taj bend, pa me živo zanimalo na šta liče, pošto nemam običaj prije giga slušati bend na internetu, volim se iznenaditi. Ovog puta iznenađenje je bilo ugodno. Riječ je o triu koji svira neki miks garažnog punka, stonera i rock n rolla. Takvi bendovi su mi uglavnom žešći smor, no ovaj bend ima ono nešto da me natjeralo da pogledam i poslušam cijeli njihov set. Gitarist i basist se odlično nadopunjuju na vokalima, imaju neke jako lijepe vokalne melodije u pjesmama i koliko sam uspio uhvatiti pjevaju na hrvatskom, pa je to dodatni plus budući da takvi bendovi dosta pucaju na šire tržište i rokaju uglavnom na engleskom. Sve u svemu, jako dobar bend i jako dobar nastup sa puno buke i energije.

Bakterije iz Čakovca su nakon uvodne dvije ili tri pjesme imali velikih tehničkih problema sa bas gitarom, no srećom uspjeli su ih riješiti i to ih nije poljuljalo da naprave u publici pred binom veliki ples i šutku redajući brze hardcore punk hitove sa aktualnog novog albuma Raspad sistema kojeg promoviraju, ispremiješane sa provjerenim uspješnicama kao što su Zaboravi me, Kako da živimo, Kad si mlad, Dižem svoj glas, a svoj set su uz sveopće pjevanje zaključili sa Sam i kao bonus još stari provjereni hit Mir.

Alergija iz Zadra su nedavno svirali kod nas u Prostoru na promociji albuma gore spomenutih Bakterija, no tada sam ih propustio, ali ovog puta sam nadoknadio propušteno i uz pivu dvije pogledao i poslušao cijeli set. Riječ je bendu sa puno staža na sceni još tamo ih prve polovice 90-ih, a sviraju street/oi punk predvođeni karizmatičnim frontmanom Stipom. Moram priznati  da su prva dva albuma bila odlična, a ove kasnije nisam baš puno slušao, no Alergija je u svoj set obuhvatila i stare hitove kao što su Četvrti stalež, Antišminkerska i uz sveopće pjevanje obradu Cock Sparrer-Ugasimo žeđ odnosno Take ´em all kao i Bepo Bagulin. Odličan sound, nastup i set pjesama.

Six Pack iz Srbije su mi jedan od najdražih domaćih bendova i uvijek ih mogu pogledati uživo, a prošla je skoro godina dana otkad sam ih zadnje gledao i slušao uživo. Miki i ekipa nikada me ne razočaraju i odsvirali su praktički sve pjesme koje sam želio čuti i oduševili sve nas prisutne koji smo dali sve od sebe pjevajući sve od prve do zadnje pjesma na hitove Fabrička greška, Vodite me, Poslednja kap, Ovde je kraj, Viša sila, Crveni makovi, Delfinov let i mnoge druge. Bend je bio oduševljen i svirački dao sve od sebe da vrati publici koja je bila fenomenalna. Zakon.

Zadnji bend večeri Antitodor iz Pule sam nedavno gledao u Sračincu kraj Varaždina, pa su ovaj put odsvirali skoro istu setlistu, koju su malo morali skratiti, jer se bližio kraj dozvoljenog vremena festivala. Oni su nastavili feštu koju su prethoni bendovi napravili i digli sve skupa na još veću razinu, vokal Todor, iako ima kako sam kaže 40 godina staža u pjevanju na bini sa bendom i 53 godine, je vidno raspoložen skako, pjevao sa fanovima, te je naprosto fascinantno koliko taj čovjek ima energije, životne volje i uvjerenja u to što radi. Živa legenda! Nadam se da ću u tim godinama i ja tako iako nas samo 11 godina dijeli hehe.

Sve što je dobro kratko traje, pa je još jedan Organizirani kaos završio. Ekipi koja radi festival želimo sve najbolje i zahvaljujemo na još jednoj prekrasnoj zabavi i uvijek ćete imati našu podršku. Zora je već rudila kada smo se uputili na zasluženi počinak da odmorimo za put doma sutradan.

This is the next-to-last lineup update for Brutal Assault! It brings forefathers of true metal avant-garde Ved Buens Ende, blasphemous death metal goatfathers Incantation or melodic masters Omnium Gatherum.

We kick off with true death metal legends INCANTATION. These unholy priests are the originators of equally unholy, blasphemous and rotten death metal that has been recently imitated to the proverbial death, but alas no epigons can match these ungodly desecrating goatfathers of the genre. The band will deliver horrific prophecies with songs from their first three albums, all of them being cult classics. If you can’t name them better do your homework, the indulgence might not be eternal under the ibex moon in our fortress! Shadows of the Ancient Empire will be cast over Josefov…

Australian killing machine ESKHATON returns a new violent assault – „The Omegalitheos”! A phenomenon of psychotic Death Metal violence will resonate with those, who are eager to receive from Death Metal more than the standardized, predictable formulas which the majority is in ease to identify with and feels familiar with. Death Metal has always been meant to be a sick, violent, dark source of energy twisting the senses and blasting the listener into possessed like states and ESKHATON are one of the few bands that are still pushing Death Metal boundaries!

KRAANIUM was formed in 2001 and are one of the original pioneers of the slamming brutality genre. Originally founded in Norway, they have toured and slammed all over the world and now they will impose their heavy relentless BDM upon the BA crowd!

The influential German thrash veterans EXUMER are coming to conquer the moshing crown! Their initial albums Possessed by Fire (1986) and Rising from the Sea (1987) stand as highly-heralded triumphs of the genre until this day. Upon reemerging from hibernation, EXUMER released three long play records that were all also exceptionally well received and especially the brand-new latest output „Hostile Defiance” is a testimony of relentless power of the genre they helped to spawn!

ČAD are long-standing Slovakian squad, that is very active since its original conception as early as in 1994. The band has won a prestigious Slovak Radiohead award for the best record in Hard and Heavy category twice, despite working their entire career in a DIY way, staying highly original, drug free and being a lot more dark, personal or less accessible than your standard band mixing up elements from extreme hardcore, metal and HC punk. Band members are not only skillful and well-rehearsed musicians, but also writers, illustrators, publishers and filmmakers, which makes them a sort of renaissance phenomenon on the extreme metal scene.

MEAT SPREADER was started after a few beers by two legends of the European gore grind scene Jaro of Dead Infection fame and Arthur of Squash Bowels. They agreed that time has come to create a band referring to grind core’s golden years and thus far this gore infested cooperation resulted in a MCD, followed last year by a split with Haemorrhage and Hemdale and a debut full-length. As you can imagine, all these contain a hefty dose of rotten old school gore grind core!

DISCHARGE is a British hardcore punk legend formed in 1977, often considered among one of the very first bands to play hardcore punk at all. The band had substantial lineup changes over its history, but its core members produced its key recordings in the early 1980s, among others the band’s first album in 1982, „Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing”. The record become an instant classic and defined the so called d-beat genre. After a number of successful singles and EPs like the famous 1981 EP „Why” or the 1982 single „State Violence State Control” the band brought in significant thrash metal crossover elements to the band. DISCHARGE’s music influenced hardcore punk, thrash metal, crust punk, grindcore and various extreme metal subgenres, making them one of the most influential underground bands of all time.

Next on the list are DECULTIVATE – misanthropic hardcore from Prague – this furious noisy HC / crust will decultivate what’s left of You in the pit!

OMNIUM GATHERUM were formed in 1996 and emerged from a vibrant European metal scene with a series of acclaimed demos with a sound that blended the raging brutality of Scandinavian death metal with a rich sense of melody and harmony. All their recordings received ecstatic reviews in numerous metal mags across Europe, and these Finns has ploughed forward for the next 20 years further exploring guitarist Markus Vanhala’s unique sonic and compositional world.

Lithuanian outfit AU-DESSUS will bring outstanding, dark, heavy hitting and atmospheric post-black metal. The mood and riffs fit very well with the lyrical themes and they’re also a stunning live band, so watch out!

And the best in the end, we present you VED BUENS ENDE! A truly cult Norwegian avant-garde metal band. Their sound is diverse with quiet instrumental jazz influenced sections, folkish elements or aggressive black metal blast beats and vocals. Ved Buens Ende means “By the end of the (rain)bow” referring to the mythological rainbow Bifröst. VED BUENS ENDE was formed in Oslo in 1994 by the drummer Carl-Michael Eide and brought forward unique mixture of many musical elements and Eide’s crooning. Also, Eide’s drumming was unusual in style, with very little repetition and a tendency to shy away from traditional drumming, often playing in different meters at once. The band was formed by many fantastic musicians doing stints with them here and there and eventually spawning such legendary acts as Dødheimsgard, Emperor, Satyricon, Arcturus, Ulver, Virus, Manes, Aura Noir, or Dimmu Borgir. However the band split up in 1997, after releasing only one but legendary full-length album „Written in Waters”. The album is unique and unusual. It incorporates many elements from various music forms and rather unconventional, dreamy and poetic lyrics. VED BUENS ENDE will only do 4 shows in 2019 so do not miss this opportunity to see these pioneers of true avant-garde metal live!
