Vocalist Janne Keskitalo comments:
“The birth of a Misfortunate Phoenix is chaotic and violent. Like a never ending
purgatory where you are reborn to live in agony. The moments alive are filled with
psychotic visions and nightmares. And when you think you have relief from it you
re-live it ad nauseam.

To describe this song in a few words, my choices would be chaotic, disturbing,
hypnotizing and beautiful. Not a typical chorus driven single, but a single we
would release just to confuse your mind.”

Mortyfear was founded already in the late 90’s in Ostrobothnia, the rugged heart of Finland. Since then, the band has published several releases including EP’s and one album. Band’s music is a unique mix of oppressive heaviness, hooky melodies and eerie cinematic atmosphere from your worst nightmares. Few years ago Mortyfear renewed it’s line-up and started to work passionately on their second full-length album. During the recording process the band developed the recognizable Mortyfear sound to an even more chaotic and haunting direction and the outcome can be heard on the new album My Dystopia. Each song in the album is one of a kind and they all connect to a big dystopic story. Songs take you to the darkest corners of the human mind with their lyrics and soundscapes.

(news) Rocking Corpses released a new single War for Doom from their upcoming second studio album Death Blues!

Promo pic by Väinö Hörkkä

Finnish Rocking Corpses is a putrid mix of rock, death metal, zombies, other horror themes and some really black humour. The band is set to release their second studio album Death Blues on July 2nd 2021 via Inverse Records. A new single and video War For Doom is released today.

The band comments:
“War for Doom was created in dawn of our studio sessions. We were listening to our demos and thinking that the album may be lacking one faster song so we geared up and this tune was ready before sundown. Vocals were finished by Laze during sessions and while the song may be a bit out of the general line of the album, it successfully finishes the loose story of the album. War for Doom was considered as a single before but we ended up with the 3 earlier singles (Buried, Another Day in Casket, Body) but when the deal with Inverse Records was made, the first suggestion for a single was this song. Well, here it is!”

(review) Qwälen – Unohdan Sinut (Time To Kill Records)

Qwälen are hailing from Helsinki/Oulu area in Finland and this is their new record out with Time To Kill Records. This band plays their vision of black metal, raw and uncompromising, often blistering fast and aggressive, but there are lots of hardcore punk influences in the song structures, but to me this music leans more on black metal side of things. Guitars are raw, vocals screaming tortured black metal screams yet they fit perfectly to the music and aggression, but also melancholic, saddened melodies behind the overlayers of drama, that only Finnish bands are capable of providing such melancholy and emotions behind the music. There are seven songs on this opus, with titles all being in Finnish language so I don´t really understand what the lyrics are about, but let the power of music speak for itself. For me the best songs on this record, being my personal favorites are Han Ei Tule Koskaan and Unohdan Sinut. Superb album.

8/10
