(review) Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! – Gone Are The Good Days

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! are back with new full length album! This French band´s new opus contains twelve songs of hardcore rawness mixed with emotion and sensitive melody of pop punk, making one good melodic hardcore record. I love how vocals mix between raw and hardcore shouting with beautiful melodic clean voice and they do it really perfectly. Guitars cut sometimes in metallic way, sometimes more pop punk riff, but retaining that groove and moshing parts for all of you who love your hardcore for moshing and singing along. Lyrics are personal and really good written and anyone can relate to themes. The title song, Marigold and True Colors are in a way personal favorites of mine, if I must choose between all of them, but do not listen to me, go find your own favorite, I think, if you like bands and music like this, you will enjoy Chunk´s new album!

(review) Primal Age – Masked Enemy (WTF Records)

Primal Age are coming from France and they have been in the scene since 1995. This is their new opus out with WTF Records who are releasing bunch of awesome hardcore punk bands these days. This record contains intro plus eleven songs. Music of Primal Age can be described as what we called in the nineties new school hardcore. Meaning hardcore leaning more on metallic side of things than on punk roots. Guitar riffs here are cutting, sharp and to the point with thunderous drumming which often turns from hardcore groove to almost death metal blast beats in some of the songs. Of course thunderous bass makes rhythm section unbeatable. Guitars are sharp creating darkened atmosphere yet retaining hidden melodic hooks here and there through the songs, which makes them epic. Vocals are best part of it all, bordering from hardcore shouting, screaming to growling depending on the song and atmosphere. Lyrics speak about animal cruelty, ecology, betrayal, friendship, trust and other merry and less merry hardcore themes. My personal favorites are The Devil Is Hidden In Shadow and The Two Heads Monster. Great release by great band.

(review) Banane Metalik – No Surrender

Banane Metalik are back with a new opus! French purveyors of gore n roll are again spreading their gore soaked mixture of hardcore punk, metal and psychobilly. New line-up has been around for a while and it seems that the chemistry in the band is perfect judging by the musical approach. New e.p. contains hits like No Surrender being up tempo straight forward anthem of horror with perfect matching video from Hellfest. My personal favorite is Rock Out, a hymn dedicated as tribute to Motorhead and legend Lemmy. Dance is a track somehow most reminding of old school Banane Metalik when they leaned more in horrorbilly than metal and punk. Singer Ced sounds superb and rest of the band is strong and convincing. I can only imagine how this new stuff sounds live, I saw Banane Metalik only once, in Ljubljana back in 2013 when they played their re-union show. Let There Be Rock is a nice horror tribute to AC/DC hehe. Go get this one and support the horror scene.
