Resto Basket are punk band from France. This is their brand new release., the band´s second album. There are eight songs on this one, all being sung in French. I don´t mind that I don´t understand a word, but let the music speak for itself.

The music of Resto Basket can be described as energetic punk rock, more of melodic kind that I love so much. The vocals are nice, neither too mellow, nor too harsh, backing vocal harmonies are nicely done. Guitar work and melodies are great, but what makes this band in my opinion a bit different from the others of the genre, are temporary excursions into some weird guitar and bass parts of the songs, like suddenly going mad or bringing a bit of noise influenced music into song structures. At least that is the way I hear it while listening to the record. If I must name some songs as my highlights of this record, that would be Le Stop, Peter Pan, Zero Zero and Piste Noire. Damn, that is already half of the record. Go support and listen if you love your punk rock melodic and energetic.

(review) Sabertooth – Of Shadows Yet To Come

Ach, how good it feels when you remember that hardcore scene is alive and well, thriving and pulsing with awesome bands and message they carry keeping the cause alive and fires alight.

This time, some Euro hardcore coming your way with Sabertooth from France. This is their new e.p. with 4 songs. I love it. The music is fast harsh hardcore, ingrained more in street punk roots than in metal yet retaining some nineties metal influenced mosh parts in the song structures. Boomerang is a superb song about something all of us experienced, betrayal, disappointment with friends in the scene. One Heartbeat Away is a song that is my personal favorite on this record. Anthemic old school hardcore guitar work, super lyrics about heartbreak and being able to forgive makes this song a mandatory hardcore anthem. Wrecking Crew is a stomping behemoth of a song, most nineties and mosh influenced of all four, talking about energy that is present in all of us at the hardcore show. It is the hardest song on this record, but it has a gentle melody hidden beneath in some song parts. The title song is also epic, journey into fighting inner demons, being able to protect loved ones and after all being energetic hardcore bomb that makes you want more of this band after this e.p. finishes. This one has nice singalong parts and I would just love to hear all these songs live because I am sure this band is a bomb on stage and I am really glad that I was able to present their music in this zine.

Write them a word or two if you like their music, I am sure they will appreciate it. Support the scene and the cause of hardcore worldwide.

(review) Taiwan Balek – We Are Staying

cover

Taiwan Balek are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine. These guys are coming from Toulon, France and are playing punk rock. This is their new release, an e.p. containing 6 songs. This is the band´s second e.p and the music is beautiful melodic punk bordering at times with hardcore influences.

I love the opener Godzilla vomited on n.a. being upbeat punk rock song with beautiful melody, short but sweet. Hardcore punk influences can be heard in Because I know, a song that somehow reminded me of Croatian band called Fast Response that I love so much. Nice mixture of more shouted and angrier vocals, cleaner leading vocals and speed with more groovier chorus. Love how the energy flows through the song. Red option starts as s more mid tempo punk song, evolving into such beautiful verse melody with harmonies on backing vocals and some stop and go in the song structures, reminds me why I love all the nineties skate punk bands that I grew up on in the last almost thirty years of me listening to this music and being in the scene. Some harsher noisier hardcore influences in this one too. State of mind is another faster straightforward melodic hardcore punk song, being one of my personal favorites on this record. I surrender is also one of my personal favorites, because I love more faster material and how this band plays it is amazing, and how much energy they deliver with their music. This one has awesome gang backing vocals, just made for singing along at the gigs. Hmmm, now I remember there are almost no gigs. Shit, depression is a nasty thing. The title song reminds me that we are still here and will not go anywhere. So, the struggle continues. Listen to this awesome record and make it easier for you in these troubled times.
