(record review) SUB DIO-Sub Dio (Underground Communique Records / Side With Us Records

Sub Dio released their same titled e.p. and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

The San Francisco hardcore punk band is made of Brian Moss(vox/guitar) from Great Apes, The Ghost, Olehole and Hanalei with Shane Hendry(Reunions) on drums, Ryan Marshall( Great Apes) on bass, Rob Carter(Great Apes) on guitar and Danica Von Hartwig on lead vocals.

There are five songs on this e.p. The music of Sub Dio is hardcore punk with some bizarre song structures here and there. Besides fast hardcore punk songs like Takies or Skeeters, there is a bit bizarre slower song Credible Fear which adds to the variety and greatness of this band. Danica´s shrieky yet melodic vocals are superbly interwined with Brian´s shouted, yet also melodic voice creating one unusual yet interesting whole. This is old school hardcore punk with middle finger pointed high in the air and facing all the polished and clean shitty stuff that passes for hardcore nowadays. I recommend this one if you want to scratch the underground and find another jewel in the crown of our scene.

(review) INK BOMB-Fiction

Dutch punk band Ink Bomb are releasing their debut album. I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.

This is the debut full length for this awesome band, the album that has been growing and getting like good wine since the band´s inception in 2015. There are 11 songs on this record. The music of Ink Bomb is a smart mix of emotional melodic punkrock with fast hardcore punk and skatepunk. I love the faster songs full of energy like Griefwalker and Brittle, but also mid tempo well written songs like Anchors. The vocals are superb, neither shouted nor too mellow and cheesy, just like I love them to be, to emphasize the emotions behind music. Backing vocals are also adding great harmonies to the structure. My personal favorite of all the songs on the record is Sternschanze which I listened to over and over again, what a beautiful and sad guitar sound there. The lyrics to the songs are a nice mix of personal and underneath it all political themes because you can´t escape politics nowadays with all the shit. This is a very nice debut, I love this record.
