(review) Odpisani – Rebirth (Monsterbilly Records)

Sometimes the end is not the end, but the new beginning. Odpisani are hardcore punk legends from Pomurje region of Slovenia being in the scene since first half of the nineties. They did couple of European tours but they retained cult status here in the north because their lyrics were in Slovenian and also in dialect spoken here in this part of Slovenia, so wider recognition was somehow limited to these parts. When long time singer and guitarist left the band, the only two remaining members were drummer Dugi and bassist Pal, but they were soon reenforced with new younger forces, guitarist Blaž(ex Senf) and singer Dario(ex Cold Snap) and the new era of Odpisani could start. Thus, new e.p. is upon us containing 5 songs in English and the new members brought the spark that rekindled the old flame into something new and these new songs are fast, angry, hardcore punk anthems but at the same time retaining melody and street punk roots that Odpisani used to have, so I love it. Lyrics deal with honoring the fallen brothers and sisters in my personal favorite Remembered, inner fight in awesome The Burden, politics in Your IQ and The Fallen Ones and creepy theme of Just Dogs, you will have to check out song and lyrics for this one, I love it! So, brothers from Odpisani, I congratulate you on 30 years of persistence and wish you many more great records like this one!

French Fast punk guerilleros Le Tunnel de l’Enfer premiered new video – Lieutenant Stan!

Le Tunnel de l’Enfer is a fast punk band formed in Lille (France), featuring members from Stupid Karate, Gummo and Supermodel Stitches. They were formed with the idea of paying tribute to the action movies they grew up with. Their first EP was composed and recorded in late 2021, it is a tribute to the movie Daylight. It will be released on January 24th on Minga Records in vinyl and digital format.

Their influences range from fast punk, hardcore, punk-rock and grind. The bands that influence them the most are Limp Wrist, Suicidal Tendencies, NOFX and Coke Bust.

This group is in some ways a product of the Covid-19 pandemic. The songs were composed without any member of the band rehearsing together. Everything was done by messaging and video conference. And this until the recording.

The next step is to compose and record a second EP, paying tribute to another movie.

After already sharing some singles as music videos and then releasing their debut EP ‘A Tribute to Daylight’ on physical/digital through Minga Records, French Indie Fast Punk 5-piece – formed by ex-members of Gummo, Stupid Karate, Penny At Work or Supermodel Stitches – Le Tunnel de l’Enfer premiered a new music video for the song “Lieutenant Stan”, available right now on YouTube.

In other news ‘A Tribute To Daylight’, quickly sold-out on Minga Records is available again in a very limited 7” vinyl repress through Dispear Records but also full-streaming on Bandcamp / YouTube before to be distributed on the main legal platforms and  through the Domino Media Group (Colossus Of Destiny, Jian, Lethal Technology…).

Melodic Hardcore Phantom Bay share new single & video off their upcoming debut album

“No One Likes” is a song about being ambitious and following your passions, but slowly learning that the dream you’re chasing is someone else’s. It’s a song about fake motivations that eventually leaves you unhappy, even if you’ve achieved your goals.

“I (Michael) wrote a sketch of this song in 2012, 9 years before recording this record, and had kept the demo on my phone ever since. It was relieving to finally turn the idea into a full song. The song’s structure is unconventional: no part repeats, yet the song is catchy and sticks. The lyrics took me a long time to write, but once I had the first line of the verse, the remaining words followed quickly. The breakdown at the end of the song is my favorite moment on the album.”
