(review) Žulj – Kultura e.p.

Remember Žulj from Rijeka, Croatia? They were already featured on the pages of this webzine. Well, they recently released their brand new e.p. and you can get your copy with Monsterbilly Records. This time Žulj deliver six songs and it is fascinating how this band grew from raw chaotic punk of their first release to this, remaining raw and street punk but also delivering melody, oi and untamed punk spirit and love for freedom and do what thou will. Songs are in Croatian language and deliver serious themes like culture of Rijeka, hypocrisy, melancholy, personal stuff and also a bit of fun and joke. Oli´s vocals are stronger than ever and rest of the band is pretty tight and sounds great. This e.p. is diy and you can support the band by ordering your copy from Monsterbilly Records. My personal favorites: Kultura, Melankolija.

(review) Stick To Your Guns – The Meaning Remains (End Hits Records)

Orange County´s melodic hardcore heroes Stick To Your Guns had many plans for 2020 but for reasons known to everybody those plans went bust. But, the guys didn´t despair, but delivered new seven inch e.p. containing four songs. This time, the band presents to the people on their more gentle acoustic side, three of the songs being acoustic renditions of STYG songs, fourth one being a cover of A-HA´s classic Take On Me. What to say? The songs done in such acoustic way sound more dark and have that sad and melancholic vibe which make you realize again and again why you love hardcore so much, music which can give you all the emotions you can relate to. Amber sounds awesome in this arrangement and is one of my personal favorites on this record besides fantastic version of classic pop song. Nobody and Forgiveness Of Self sound so sad and yet so hopeful at the same time, especially Nobody with great backing vocal harmonies and the whole song just made goosebumps crawling on my skin. This is a great seven inch, go get it, listen and see the other side of this fantastic band.

(review) Rest Easy – Sick Day e.p. (Mutant League Records)

044632

Rest Easy is new band from Vancouver, Canada, but members of the band have been in the scene for a while playing in Daggermouth and Shook Ones.

This is their debut e.p. out with Mutant League Records and it contains four songs. Music of Rest Easy is fast and melodic hardcore punk, skate punk, with some angry shouting vocals, some melodic singing, fitting perfectly to song structures. My personal favorite is Headaches being a perfect mixture of hardcore and melodic punk, just the way I love. The other song that I must mention as being my highlight on this album is Bad Idea, mid tempo punk rock song with dual vocal lines, melancholic guitar work and vibe that made me sad and melancholic and brought up emotions in me that only this music can. This is a very strong debut being one of my favorite pieces of music that I listened in the last couple of weeks, so I am so stoked for the full length when it comes out.
