(review) Bent Blue – Between Your And You´re (Modern Illusion Records)

Modern Illusion is relatively young record label in the scene but they deliver superb releases. This time they delivered demo by hardcore band from San Diego, California called Bent Blue.

This demo contains five songs. While listening to the songs, it brought back two feelings in me. First, it reminded me of the early nineties when we started in the scene as young and idealistic kids, loving the early nineties hardcore sound and mourning a little for not being a bit older to experience old school youth crew feeling and vibe of the late eighties. Well the music of this band sound just like that. Like early nineties hardcore with some groove, smart songwriting, interesting solutions in parts of the songs, yet also being fast old school hardcore with melody, anthemic riffs and nice vocals. Of all the songs, my favorites are They Ask Why and Influence Me. This is a great demo, can´t wait for the full length.

(review) Wired Shut – Demo Tape 2020 (Modern Illusion Records)

Portlandś Wired Shut released their demo tape with Modern Illusion Records for EU and it contains three songs. Featuring current and former members of Hoods and Sinking Ships, this band plays hardcore just the way I like it, fast and furious, done in an old school not those coded messages in slowed down songs hehe. Manipulator is a fast and raw song with some catchy guitar work and lyrics that all hardcore scenes in the world can relate to, liars and manipulators who corrupt our scene with their existence. Again And Again is for me the best song on this tape, being an anthem with solid street punk roots and as I read the lyrics, I think they are about addiction and not getting out of the toxic loop. Stay Away is a short but sweet hardcore bomb. Can´t wait for the new material to come out!

(review) The Order Of The Fly – Into This Abyss

The Order Of The Fly is a proof of versatility and richness of horror punk scene. This band is celebrating their 20th anniversary of mischief and what better way to celebrate it than with the new album.

This band from San Bernardino led by Ralphie Repulsive on bass and vocals, always was one of my favorite horror punk bands. Why? Because they mix horror punk, hardcore, metal, industrial, gothic and even EBM in their songwriting creating dark and thickened atmosphere, almost you can feel it and touch it while listening. Yet, they retained a lot of melodies at the same time still holding on to their punk and hardcore roots thus delivering the best from both worlds.

This new album contains 15 songs carrying the story, couple of them being kind of interludes, making and creating atmosphere for the continuation of the main storyline in lyrics. Ralphie is screaming, whispering, singing and his vocals are soo fantastic, I love how they fit perfectly to the different songs and their atmosphere. Dual synth work is superb, guitar riffs catchy, metallic and thick, backing vocal harmonies awesome like they should be in this kind of bands. Double bass on drums, fast parts, slower rolling songs are totally fit for the album and this band will just never disappoint. Favorite songs: Pull You Under, The Persistence Of Vermin, Ashes.
