Slovenian hardcore heavyweights are back with new release to commemorate this shitty year. These two songs are done like they should be and we expect from this hardcore outfit. So, Laid to Rest play metalized modern hardcore with respectful nod of head to old school influences. Of the two songs, I like Rock Bottom a bit more, because it is faster and more hardcore punk and has almost Earth Crisis like ending of the song. Also I can totally relate to the lyrics of the song in this shitty year that almost buried most of us. 4270 is the second song, featuring Rok Rupnik from Within Destruction and this song is an ode to Jesenice hardcore scene from where this band comes from. I learned to love this band through my Southamerican brother from another mother Dalin from 69Enfermos who told me they are brilliant. And they certainly are. This six songs offer sheer vicious speed, ferocity and melody of skatepunk/hardcore. What I love is that they are enough technical and have some metallic parts to be rough and enough melody to be emotional and I love it. I love even blast beat drumming on The Bottom of Bottomless Pit being one of my personal favorites on this record along with the title song and Hunt the Haze. As for goes for vocals, they are so sweet, backing vox harmonies are done superbly and musicianship is at fantastic level with all complex songwriting, tempo changes, pumping rich bass lines, impeccable inhuman drumming and superb guitar work. Unfortunately I still haven´t checked these guys live, but will certainly do once this long winter ends and light is back upon the world. Until then have a listen to this great record!
Modern Illusion is relatively young record label in the scene but they deliver superb releases. This time they delivered demo by hardcore band from San Diego, California called Bent Blue.
This demo contains five songs. While listening to the songs, it brought back two feelings in me. First, it reminded me of the early nineties when we started in the scene as young and idealistic kids, loving the early nineties hardcore sound and mourning a little for not being a bit older to experience old school youth crew feeling and vibe of the late eighties. Well the music of this band sound just like that. Like early nineties hardcore with some groove, smart songwriting, interesting solutions in parts of the songs, yet also being fast old school hardcore with melody, anthemic riffs and nice vocals. Of all the songs, my favorites are They Ask Why and Influence Me. This is a great demo, can´t wait for the full length.
