(REVIEW) COMPA-S/T

a0052453942_10

Compa are hardcore punk band hailing from Brooklyn, New York. This is their new release containing 6 songs of noisy, fast and ferocious hardcore punk with great lyrics covering themes of migrants, being poor, trying to survive in this wild capitalist world of slavery, fighting fascism and similar themes. The music is very dark and vocals are screaming but there is an occasional nice guitar melody behind all the harshness like in my favorite off this record called Brown. This is a short but sweet e.p., it is name your price on Bandcamp so go get this one and support your scene.

(review) Even Death-Suffer Like the Rest of Us

Even Death are hailing from Phoenix, Arizona and this is their debut demo. There are three songs on this demo. The music is hardcore but more on metalic side of things, like all the nineties playing bands, but keeping one foot in modern hardcore scene. Moshing parts, cutting guitars and pumping bass mix with some faster more straightforward hardcore punk song parts like in Regret. The lyrics to the songs are good and being personal, but having that somehow bittered and angry theme between the lines. My personal favorite of all three songs is Suffer Like the Rest of Us, because it is the most heavy, yet somehow the most epic song on a record. Really strong first demo!

(review) Stepping Stone-Escape From the Junkyard

a0269509687_10

I remember Croatian hardcore band from back in the nineties, they were from Zagreb, their bass player now plays in mega popular Croatian band Brkovi, so I was surprised to see this Stepping Stone from Canada if I am not mistaken, so I said to myself let us hear what these guys have to offer. Escape From the Junkyard offers intro plus five songs of at times harsh, more metalic influenced hardcore, yet retaining that street punkrock charm and sounding raw, but great with moshing parts mixing to more faster straightforward hardcore punk. Top that with angry vocals that fit perfectly to the music and you get one damn fine record. So, go grab this one, songs like Soul Division or the title song will not leave you indifferent if you love your hardcore.
