(review) Blitzkid – All Hallow´s Stre´em

Blitzkid were and always be on horror punk throne besides The Crimson Ghosts, The Other, BZFOS and couple of more legendary bands. But Blitzkid boys are the best for me and I was so sad when they split up in 2012 leaving throne of horror punk vacant.  Now, in 2021 Argyle Goolsby and TB Monstrosity are back with new live album recorded also as DVD for their Halloween live performance due to covid 19 restrictions.  This jewel contains 19 songs that are absolute hits but I would love to see couple of more personal favorites of mine on this record, knowing these songs that I think of were always standards in Blitz´s set list. But all the fan favorites like Starlite Decay, She Dominates, Mary And The Storm, These Walls, Love Like Blood, Hellraiser and many others are here, so we will not be sad or dissatisfied. Blitzkid we wish you a bloody warm welcome and long live the horror!!!!

(review) Diechotomy – It Came from Outer Space

cover

Time to continue with horror punk on the pages of this zine. Do you guys remember of a band called Scared Shitless we featured on the pages of this zine a while ago? Well, after they disbanded, two of the guys, namely Ryan and Jimmy continued making music with new Diechotomy.

This is their new release containing 5 songs of melodic and nice horror punk, just the way I like it. This last year, although worse in many forms, has been really nice for horror punk scene which exploded with many excellent releases and new and old bands. The music of Diechotomy is in many ways classic horror punk with many singalong parts, super melodies and really nice voice of Ryan Smith which reminds me a bit of Shadow Windhawk in some parts of the songs. Damn, as I listen to this record is dawns to me that this is one of the best horror punk records that I have listened to in a while. Mid tempo punk with horror pumping in the veins and the songs I somehow repeated the most are Invasion of the Body Snatchers and They Live, all horror fans will know the lyrical themes of these songs, such beautiful vocal harmonies, especially the interplay between backing vox and lead in They Live. Each of the five songs amazes me more and more. Night of the Creeps is another example how horror punk should be done. Aftermath finishes the record in apocalyptic way leaving me for more and more and spinning this e.p. constantly. Super!

(review) The Midnight Spookshow – The Valley of Shadows

I recently interviewed The Midnight Spookshow from Spain about their brand new e.p. and many other interesting themes.

Well, here it is, four songs from the depths of Hell, ready to take your black heart and melt your face off. The title song is for me one of the best on this release, kinda reminding me of Japanese Balzac in vocal lines and melodies. Production is gritty, diy and murky, kinda brings that vibe of darkness in the music, but also melancholy and melody. The Dark Passenger is a song with more of a metal vibe, I can even hear some goth influences in the midst of guitar work through the song structure. I must also commend clever use of samples on this record, I love that if they are done and used with style. Burking Method is for me best song besides above mentioned title song, having that awesome melancholic and dark main guitar melody combined with harsh sung vocals, killer song! Blood Spell brings back the horrorpunk singing along with many ooo parts and reminds me why I love this genre of music so much! So, go write to the guys and support them, you will not be sorry when you hear the e.p.
