(review) Monsters Of Your Mind-What We Are Capable Of…

Album Artwork

Monsters Of Your Mind are from Surrey, UK and they are releasing their debut e.p. on Halloween. This e.p contains 5 songs and they are all different as horror punk scene is, varied and with diverse influences in the song structures. Dolly is for me one of the most interesting songs on the record, being almost mixture of punk rock but done in a synth pop way and very eerie song indeed topped with superb vocals. Giant Slugs From Outa Space continues in a similar direction, but it is more of a weird song, vocals sounding almost rapping in some parts of the song mixed with post punk and great allegoric lyrics with nice chorus. Killing Machine is old school punk song, of almost street punk oi sound. My other personal favorite besides Dolly is Vaporized, horror punk songs just made for going nuts in the club in front of the stage. Zombie Voodoo is a song which is very unusual, being a capella for starters then evolving into reggae post punk with horror lyrics. Interesting e.p. I can´t wait for the full length to arrive one day.

(review) The Mary Lous-It´s Not Who You Come With, It´s Who Takes You Home

That is what I need on a shitty Monday afternoon to make my life good and music to pump blood to my old black heart. The Mary Lous are hailing from New Jersey area and this is their first album.

This record contains 10 songs of spooky ukey music. These ghouls play a mixture of horror punk, pop punk and some doo wop and psychobilly thrown in the song structures for good measure. The lyrics are horror enough, but also humor enough and with songs like I Wish Bruce Campbell Was My Boyfriend or Dead Girls Don´t Say No To Donuts, this band is sure to win you over. My personal favorites on the record are Going To The Chapel and When My Brain Falls Out. In some songs, these ghoulettes remind me of early The Creepshow in some segments and also they remind me of something I would listen cruising around on a warm Summer Saturday night on the streets of some small town like Haddonfield ahaha. I love the girls´ voices how they create beautiful harmonies singing and the songs are not your typical in your face-hit-me horror punk but really gentler and more almost ethereal and haunting, but for the fans of darkness and melody, this one is perfect. Go get this one!

(review) The Order Of The Fly – Into This Abyss

The Order Of The Fly is a proof of versatility and richness of horror punk scene. This band is celebrating their 20th anniversary of mischief and what better way to celebrate it than with the new album.

This band from San Bernardino led by Ralphie Repulsive on bass and vocals, always was one of my favorite horror punk bands. Why? Because they mix horror punk, hardcore, metal, industrial, gothic and even EBM in their songwriting creating dark and thickened atmosphere, almost you can feel it and touch it while listening. Yet, they retained a lot of melodies at the same time still holding on to their punk and hardcore roots thus delivering the best from both worlds.

This new album contains 15 songs carrying the story, couple of them being kind of interludes, making and creating atmosphere for the continuation of the main storyline in lyrics. Ralphie is screaming, whispering, singing and his vocals are soo fantastic, I love how they fit perfectly to the different songs and their atmosphere. Dual synth work is superb, guitar riffs catchy, metallic and thick, backing vocal harmonies awesome like they should be in this kind of bands. Double bass on drums, fast parts, slower rolling songs are totally fit for the album and this band will just never disappoint. Favorite songs: Pull You Under, The Persistence Of Vermin, Ashes.
