(review) The Tomb Tones-Pumpkin Guts

a2625485872_10

Boy I am glad that I am a part of horror scene and horror punk rock world. When I discover bands like this, whole world is a bit nicer for a moment. The Tomb Tones are hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. This record contains 7 beautiful songs, of a bit raw and retro, yet energetic horror punk the way it should be done. The way  I love it most.

The songs like Party of Horror Beach and Monster Movie are straightforward horror punk with nice melodies, awesome vocals and almost raw garage punk feel and vibe in the song structures. One of my favorites, My Girlfriend´s a Zombie is a half ballad inspired a bit with doo wop and rockabilly/psychobilly and having a sweet, sweet chorus. Next one, Devil´s Train of Death is also a bit psychobilly influenced bordering with classic rock riffs. Dracula´s Brother is one of the best songs on the record having almost wicked horror road movie vibe while listening, like a bit Americana touch in the song. Ghost Story is for me the song of the record, so gentle, a bit country influenced at the start, with beautiful lyrics about death and afterlife, being eternal in love. Sick Sense is maybe the most classic rock song having doo wop fifties influenced bridge and evolving into classic rock chorus. In all, superb little record, versatile and strong, like horror scene itself.

(review) The Whiskey Bats/Die Ghost-Split

Time to listen to the split release of two bands I never listened prior to this one, namely The Whiskey Bats and Die Ghost.

You guessed it, it is horror punk and both bands are represented by two songs on the record. Die Ghost are from Minneapolis and deliver two songs called Gallows Hill and Lovers Lane . Die Ghost play a beautiful melodic mixture of street punk dirt anthems mixed with horror lyrics and dual vocal attack and I really enjoyed their distorted bass, almost apocalyptic melodies, especially on Gallows Hill, reminded me a lot of never forgotten American Werewolves in some song parts. Lovers Lane is a song for which a lyric video was made, with almost oi punk start, evolving into really beautiful anthem just made for singing along.

As for The Whiskey Bats from Pennsylvania side of the record, Bringing Back The Dead is their version of Stray Cats classic, the song sounding fresh, awesome, like horror punk classic hehe with singalong parts made to feel your night more alive with blood pumping and screams caressing your ears. Attack Of The Bleeding Brain is a great horror punk song, with almost metallic feel and sounding more angry than melodic. In all, both bands are great but Die Ghost are a bit better considering my personal taste. Support this one!

(review) A Gathering of None-Give Up The Ghost

A Gathering of None started as a one man project by TB from Blitzkid, sometime in 2011 when those legends were going towards their end which happened in 2012 and TB wanted to do something new and inspiring. In time, it evolved into full band. This is the latest 6 song e.p.

The music of A Gathering of None is breaking all the boundaries and is situated somewhere between horror punk, metal and punk rock. Of course, there is no escape from horror punk influences and awesome melodies like in Maybe Someday, being at the same time horror punk anthem but also having nice metallic touch and groove to the riffs. Also, TB is one of my favorite vocals in the scene and his voice makes every song even more special. My other personal favorite on this record is Weed Them Out to which I can totally relate lyrically and personally, also being fantastic song musically, with that bass solo and heavy rolling drums through the song ending. Rise(One Last Grasp At Hope) is a ballad, which left goosebumps on my skin, with lyrics, atmosphere and all, especially with me being at the lowest point of my life this year since February and no, not due to that covid shit. There should be a new release in December, so have a listen to this excellent e.p. until that time.
