Defiant Brood is an American band hailing from Cumberland, MD and as I can understand, this is their debut ep.
Ths music this band plays is a mixture of horrorpunk and deathrock. The ep consists of 5 songs, one of them being “Hybrid Moments” cover by The Misfits. Some songs are faster like my favourite “The Urge”, some are more deathrock oriented like “Mina” but on the record usually prevails good old melodic horrorpunk. Vocalist Sarah is a very able singer and I can only imagine how good this material comes across live at the gigs. As I see, very soon the new full length album is out, so I am looking forward to this material. This band is one decent horrorpunk DIY band and check out their music, show them some love and support. I am sure the guys from Defiant Brood will know how to appreciate it.
Eastern European scene is full of undiscovered bands and jewels from the neverending well of underground. THE NIGHT is one of such bands. Hailing from Odessa, Kiev they are conisting of the members of Kingpin and PowerPlay.
This is, as I understand their debut release. The album is recorded in Odessa, Ukraine and mixed and mastered in USA. There are 6 tracks on this record. They love to say that their music is a mix of Misfits, Black Flag, Type O Negative and Alkaline Trio. The Night´s music is pretty wild and raw but also melodic as in the opener “Absolute Power”. There is a lot of Black Flag aggression and noisy arrogance in “Subhuman” for me the most noise influenced and harsh track on the record. You can almost feel the dust in “Pyramid”. The singer reminds me a lot of Cancerslug´s Alex Story and the whole song structures too especially in “Night on Earth”. The title track is a noisy, distorted ode to this world´s destruction and nihilism. The last song “Love in Sunnydale” is my favourite and best on this record. Check out these guys, they deserve it!
