ROT were already featured on the pages of this zine. This Mexican horror punk entity released new e.p. and it is upon us. This is the first full band e.p. and it contains 6 songs, one being intro. Lyrics are in English language and this is a clear step up in quality of songwriting and material. Music of ROT is pure raw and untamed horror punk full of gore, irony, horror and zombies. Songs like Punxombie, Skate Zombies and As We Roam are personal favorites of mine. Guitars are raw, diy and present the energy of punk, vocals are also screamed, shouted but also melodic. Love this one. Go support! Can´t wait for other material.
Scarecrow from Finland are no strangers to the pages of this zine. These horror punk veterans just released their brand new e.p. containing four songs. If you have listened to their music you will know that Scarecrow play horror punk, but a bit harsher and melancholic at the same time, with many metal influences thrown in the song structures sounding awesome topped with harsh and melodic vocals by mastermind Jack13. So, let´s see what we get here. The title song is a bit more melodic and paying tribute to horror punk classics being metallic doo wop vision of horror. I can also hear tribute to The Misfits in guitar work towards the end of the song. This one has such superb melody just made for humming and singing along for all you horror fiends out there. Zombie is a remake, fast, almost thrash metal or Scandinavian death metal influenced song mixed with horror punk, blood lusty and energetic. This record also features epic guest vocal work by Johanna Rutto on The Beauty of the Beast, being my personal favorite on this record, that I listened to over and over again. Vocal interplay between Jack13 and Johanna created atmosphere that made my skin crawling with goosebumps. This nice splatterpunk record ends with Le Moribond, most metallic song of the record and hardest song making perfect ending. Great one again!
Draven Valentine has a new release out there with four songs ready to melt your face off. These four songs on the e.p. are all different and I love the way how they are done. Intro sounds like a fifties doo wop influenced ballad, the sound I grew to love so much. Eternal Night is a classic horrorpunk song with all the moments and singalong parts, melodies and vocals we love this genre for.
Atom Age Vampire is more of a deathrock even gothic influenced song, especially in vocal lines, with pumping bass, darkened atmosphere of almost touchable sorrow and sombre heart.
She Dines With Wolves has many metallic parts and is again much more different than the rest of the material. Slower parts, eerie keyboard melodies and great vocal melodies give this song something special and this is a great release indeed.
