La Armada captured the personal and global tribulations of 2020 in three separate stints at Chicago’s Electrical Audio Studios. The sessions resulted in Anti-Colonial Vol. 2 – An 11 song album that looks to leave their distinct mark on heavy music.

The first single Death on Replay (May 4) is a picture of La Armada during the height of the pandemic in 2020. In this second single All We Know, they’ve built tension with chaotic and technical rhythms, and release it with the familiarity of their punk and hardcore roots.

The lyrics reflect on the duality between being on the road versus being on lockdown, where you have to balance isolation and anxiety with the need to create art and push forward through dark times.

La Armada’s focus is to leave their mark on heavy music. A punk band at heart, they utilize elements of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and metal to create a style as unique as their story. Formed in the Dominican Republic in 2001 from where they dominated the Caribbean scene for years, the band opted to take a leap and relocate to Chicago in 2008, where they still reside.

Influenced by bands ranging from the Bad Brains to Death, they take elements from their native Island’s music to conjure a unique recipe; explosive live energy, and a clear cut narrative that highlights the effects of neo-colonialism on vulnerable communities.
Whether headlining tours throughout the world or supporting the likes of Sick of it All, Propagandhi, Strung Out, Death by stereo, and more, La Armada has come to bring a vibrant spin to the scene.

Freshly signed to Lockjaw Records, borts are getting to business and have released the imaginatively titled, EP1, featuring the single The Nurse.

Produced by Lewis Johns (Muncie Girls, Gnarwolves), the track is an ode about self-loathing and love liking, beer drinking and collar bone breaking.

“‘The Nurse’ was actually written about the nurse that looked after Tom when he broke his collarbone by backflipping (half naked, of course) on Bournemouth beach after a NOFX show, no less.”, guitarist, Dom, explains.

This fun anthemic listen got the band searching for creative solutions in the studio. “It’s a song that Tom has had knocking about for a while, and has gone through several iterations before we settled on this sound for the version we recorded. It’s the only tune on the album that uses an acoustic, and when we were recording it, we dived head-first into creating a tune that highlighted the contradiction between the acoustic, honky-tonk first half and the full-on second half. We just kept saying honky-tonk to Lewis and we got there eventually. And it has a glockenspiel in it.”

EP1 is available on all digital platforms from the 20th October. Watch the video here:
borts, are a 3-piece punk band from the South West of England, formed out of long-standing friendships and a mutual love for music, films, games, and good chilled out hangs.

They’ve been involved with other bands (Your Demise, Tireless & more), and have decided to come back by recording an EP, and a new album.

borts have been produced by Lewis Johns (Palm Reader, Muncie Girls, Gnarwolves) at The Ranch, which we’re happy to say sounds pretty fresh!

They’ve been picking some airplay on the BBC1 Rock Show and are Kerrang! Radio’s Fresh Blood pick.
